KYIV IS VERY POCKET FRIENDLY With the DM’s that we got on our first post about Kyiv, Ukraine, I thought I should talk about the economical aspect of Kyiv (which by the way was the most asked question) The most convenient way to get to the city from the airport is by using Kyiv Boryspil express. Period! This train is right outside the airport is the most economical way to get to the city center (kids go free) and the views you get of Kyiv are unbelievable. So for a tourist, it is a win-win. Kyiv in general has a very vast metro network line, so no matter what, you are connected to every attraction / historical destination in the city! Public cheap commute is a boon for tourists as we don’t have to depend on cars / taxis and Ukraine nails this part with such aplomb. Would you prefer public transport or taxis when in a foreign land? Credo che a tutti, o perlomeno alla maggior parte delle persone, piaccia viaggiare. Viaggiare però è un concetto ampissimo. Con il tempo e l’esperienza ho iniziato a capire dove mi piace viaggiare, come mi piace farlo e soprattutto perché. Ho iniziato a capire che non mi interessa visitare monumenti famosissimi, che ci sono aree del mondo che mi interessano più di altre e soprattutto che non mi piace viaggiare in senso assoluto - ma mi piace viaggiare nel mio modo. Mi piace la libertà di essere da sola, mi piace visitare posti dimenticati ai più, mi piace ascoltare storie semi-sconosciute, mi piace la vecchietta in Georgia che mi bacia sulla guancia per il mio coraggio di visitare il paese da sola. Il mio libro preferito - fin da quando ho 7 anni - è “l’isola del tesoro” di R.L. Stevenson. L’idea di marinai che partivano dall’Europa in barca, affrontavano viaggi a volte addirittura mortali ed esploravano isole lontane del Pacifico mi ha sempre emozionato fino alle lacrime. Non è quasi più possibile diventare un esploratore ai nostri tempi ma la felicità che mi da scoprire bellezza in posti sconosciuti ai più (quasi inesplorati, comparati ad alcune destinazioni) non è nemmeno lontanamente paragonabile ad un weekend in qualche capitale europea. Per questo l’anno scorso, dopo un weekend a Londra monotono e noioso, mi sono ripromessa di smettere di mentire a me stessa. So cosa mi piace e cosa, al contrario, non mi stimola. Da quel momento in poi, ho iniziato a seguire soltanto il mio istinto e le mie preferenze nella scelta delle destinazioni. Siamo tutti diversi e, ovviamente, diversa è la nostra attitudine al viaggio. La vera domanda quindi non è più “ti piace viaggiare?” ma piuttosto “Come viaggi? Perché viaggi?
