I was saying today.... that I have a dream. A dream I propose to realise next year. A dream that I used to fulfil , but have not had the time recently. With commitments, performance, teaching , choreography.... I have responsibilities. I train alone... practice alone and also motivate myself alone.... I have A dream that I can absolve myself of all these responsibilities for one whole month .... and maybe transfer it to someone else. :-) I want to attend classes and dance the whole day! When switching between choreography, teaching... correcting form and dancing myself .... I often am confused. My mind is trying to choreograph, remember choreography and also correct my students at the same time .... :-) these are three separate activities and when multitasking, I often forget my own choreography .... watching and correcting my students takes precedence over dancing myself ... When I’m choreographing and dancing with the company, it often happens that I need to finish watching first before I can dance properly myself.... so I sit out of the choreography for a long time. Then I have to learn everything later.... :-) :-) here I am choreographing a small bit to the music of the amazing @madurai.r.muralidaran . Performance day! It’s always difficult to do other things the morning of a performance. I’m talking about performances that are 90 mins long and over... and are usually a full length Margam or one of my solo or ensemble productions. These especially need my attention, my calm state of being and I need to be rested. But as performers we function under less than ideal situations. We most of the time have technical rehearsals the morning of the performance. Sometimes we teach classes or workshops the morning of a performance. But all this is part of it. Our bodies and minds need to be resilient enough to work through less than ideal situations with mental quiet. I get better at this each year. Every year I learn to work with many different offerings.... I learn to keep my mind quiet, my body present and available .... I know this has been a challenging process for me .... will talk more about this in my next post .
