Lower back, neck or shoulder pain while sitting? Try these 5 exercises to stay out of pain. - The spine loves movement. Stand up often. Shift your body position. Maintain the natural curve of the spine with the Evercore low back support while sitting. - Video 1 – Prone supermans with the green Evercore miniband.  The lightweight miniband helps to strengthen the rotator cuff and upper back to reverse the negative effects of excessive sitting. - Video 2 – Press-ups with hands high. This exercise feels great to alleviate the feeling of tightness in the upper back. - Video 3 – Shoulder external rotation with shoulder blade squeeze. Keep the elbows at your side and external rotate the shoulder by spreading the green Evercore minibands apart. This exercise keeps the shoulder and upper back healthy. - Video 4 – Neck scalenes stretch. Move the neck upward and out to the side. It feels great to move the neck after staring at the computer screen for an hour. - Video 5 – Neck sidebending. Bring the ear to the shoulder and repeat. How often does your neck move like this? Move the neck often while sitting. - Video 6 – Sitting posture. Maintain the arch of the spine more often to reduce strain on the spine. Tight neck by the end of your week? Try these three exercises to prehab your neck at work. - Prolonged sitting at work and lack of movement is tough on the neck. The head and shoulders are often positioned forward while sitting in front of your computer. - The lack of movement in the opposite direction can make you feel stiff and achy. The videos in this post include exercises I completed last night to reduce tightness in my neck before leaving the office. - Video 1: Neck retractions. Push the back of your head into the red Evercore power band and hold for 30-45 seconds. This isometric exercise strengthens the neck and often alleviates tension in the neck. - Video 2: Overhead Band Pulls. Pull the band apart and raise the arms overhead. This isometric exercise helps to stretch the upper back and open up your posture. Video 3: Shoulder Blade Squeezes. Pull the Evercore power band back with your shoulder and squeeze the should blades together while lifting the chest up. This exercise helps to stretch the upper back into extension and strengthens the muscles in the upper back. This is not a common exercise, but it’s one of my favorite movements to reduce tightness in the upper back and neck. - Prehab your body throughout the week to avoid feel feeling tired and worn out. Not only are they not the healthiest, but they can trigger acne as well.
