. I’ve always yearned for freedom... I tried to get this by any material means necessary. I went against the grain, tried to control everything, and was extremely rebellious. I knew that this methodology wasn’t working but I was very stubborn and kept pushing. The more my external circumstances looked like I had things “under control” the more I was actually spinning out of control. . After so much useless endeavor I ended up in a very dark place, enshrouded with cynicism, and in a deep ignorance. I was pretty heartbroken with life and completely traumatized with what I had put myself through. I thought I would never come back from those dark places. . Yesterday I took formal vows of initiation by my spiritual teacher @radhanathswami . His teachings and the community of the @bhakticenter have been a torchlight of wisdom and compassion. They have lifted me up out of the darkness and opened my eyes with knowledge and so much kindness. They have taught me that true freedom means to surrender. To accept that I am not the controller, to be humble in accepting all the good in life, tolerant with all the bad that may come, and completely ready to offer all respects to others and expect none in return. . Freedom means a surrender of the heart to a higher power. When there is an understanding that no material solutions will soothe the suffering of the spirit, when we move past our attachments and lusty desires, when there is a constant remembering of the Divine and a deep faith that I am being taken care of...a higher truth becomes visible. The knots of the heart become disentangled and there is true bliss.... I pray for all of your blessings in this new path that I am dedicating my life to. I pray for strength and determination. I pray to serve you all with an honest heart. The path of the "Spiritual Warrior" is not soft and sweet. It is not artificially blissful and feigned forgiving. It is not fearful of divisiveness. It is not afraid of its own shadow.
