Feeling pretty relaxed and ready. My studio open house SPRING INTO SUMMER SALE is tomorrow and Saturday. The studio has been transformed from a chaotic mess to a clean, orderly and organized space filled with my artwork, garden art, painted furniture and all kinds of vintage goodies. Good morning all. I just love the lighter evenings. I get so much more done and before I realise, it’s 10pm. DAY -20 AFTER DARK .If there’s a downside,it would be that all the outside lights don’t really show up because it’s still light heading toward 11pm! By this time I’m usually face planting my pillow. I’m outside at every possible opportunity (weather permitting). I know most of you have had awful storms over the last couple of days but we have had glorious weather here Today we are heading to Harlech Castle for my daughters last day before she heads back home to Yorkshire tomorrow. Hauling out the harvest baskets It’s still an herb, herb world here right now, but I’m all good with that. As today’s weather is calling for 2” of rain (bye bye beautiful Oriental Poppies), I braved the killer mosquitoes last night to do a quick snip of chives, chamomile, peppermint, lemon balm, oregano & violas. It feels so good to see my studio quickly filling up with baskets, trays & bunches of herbs drying everywhere. I need to get bundling to hang this lemon balm, oregano & mint. The chamomile, chives & violas will air dry in a single layer in baskets. Every day I’ll give them a little toss/sort to make sure they’re getting good air circulation. I prefer to air dry my herbs (with the exception of basil which I do use a dehydrator for). Any exposure to heat starts to eat away at the essential oils in the herbs, hence my preference. The key to air drying is to make sure to keep them out of direct sunlight and in a dry environment. Humidity is not a friend, so as tempting as it would be to open my windows today, I won’t because the herbs will suck it right in. Rather, I’ll bring in an air-conditioner in a few weeks once/if it warms up around here to help keep the studio temperature controlled. I’ll keep checking on the bevy of drying herbs & once they crumble to the touch, then I’ll jar them up in glass containers. Today was the last day of school for my boys.
