Today marks the beginning of a new chapter as I head to my first class of interior design school! I am so excited to embrace a world I’ve always wanted to be in, and to grow from the successes and failures I will encounter along the way. Está experiencia es un buen ejemplo de los beneficios del trabajo en equipo. When I was in 4th grade I drew out my entire dream mansion floor plan and gave each of my imaginary daughters these beautiful bedrooms I cut and pasted out of magazines. I picked out every single paint color for each room (and couldn’t understand why stores gave those paint chips out FOR FREE ) I was obsessed with HGTV and of course I loved to draw. But when I chose interior design as a last minute career in college.. I had no clue what I was getting myself into!⠀ ⠀ I soon learned how to draft and space plan, how to comply with building codes, and how to document & communicate my design to a contractor. I learned how to create a brand identity, how to build up a space using BIM software, and how to have conversations with architects & engineers without sounding like an idiot!! ....oh and I also learned that HGTV was extremely misleading ⠀ ⠀ But not too long ago I actually wanted to give up interior design altogether!! Crazy I know.. but I was feeding myself all of these LIES about how I wasn’t good enough or fancy enough.. that I wasn’t cut out for the 9-5 office life.. and worst of all: that I was never passionate about interior design.. I only chose it because I didn’t know what else to do. And I enabled this negativity by letting these lies shape my reality.⠀ ⠀ It’s been a long journey of manning up and learning how to embody the confident and creative woman that I so deeply want to be. And I’m not nearly there yet, but I do know that you and I both are placed right where we are in life for very good reason. It’s okay to doubt yourself every now and then. But it’s not okay to limit yourself and bind yourself to doubt based beliefs.⠀ ⠀ The truth is I love all things design: finishes, branding, graphics, artwork... I believe it’s in these small creative expressions that our souls seek and find fulfillment. With that being said, I want to make it a goal to post more interior design related content/inspiration for you guys this year!! Tons of online marketers would probably yell at me for not focusing in on one thing but this is me.. take it or leave it I’m Callan, I’m an interior designer, an artist, AND yes, an oiler too! Let’s be friends!!

When I studied interior design in college, I was pretty sure I wanted to do residential design as opposed to commercial design because I love the process of creating a home. ✨ One of my favorite projects in school was to design a house for a pretend family I called “The Westerleys”. ‍♀️ It was the best. During that project though I started realizing that if this was real life, the Westerleys would probably have a lot of opinions that I wouldn’t love and then maybe I wouldn’t be as proud of the end result ... so then I thought for a minute, maybe I’ll just design my own home for fun and design little cafes and restaurants for work instead. ☕️ Then after college I realized I liked business and I thought...or maybe I want to actually OWN my own little cafe that I also design. Now I think, or maybe I’ll just GO to cute little cafes and restaurants to partake and take pictures of them, but not be responsible to manage them. Lol. Someday maybe I’ll still end up doing some of those things, but I love what I’m doing now so it all worked out. And I will forever take every chance possible to go to cute places designed by other people. —a lil story I will tell my future children when they go to college and don’t know what they’re doing with their life

My focus as we continue to head full-forced into a fresh year: . 1- What do I want MOST? Every decision I make from how I spend my time to what I put in my body will come back to this question from @msrachelhollis . Is this choice going to support what I want RIGHT NOW or what I want MOST? . 2- Consistency over perfection. It is much more important to show up than to not, because I’m worried about being perfect. . 3- I WILL KEEP PROMISES TO MYSELF. (Also a @msrachelhollis mantra) I am my longest commitment and I will chose ME this year. The things I promise I will do I will follow through on . What would happen if you kept the promises you made to yourself?!
