#scrollstoppinghome Week 2 – Big, small or giant overhaul, if it’s DIY we want to see it all! Pretty much everything in this acct from design to pics is DIY, which prob is more obv than it should be but TO BE EXPECTED AS I’M DIY SNOB & WARRIOR AGAINST TYRANNY OF TRENDS & OTHER TOTALITARIAN TERRORS. Nothing in the trade has done more for DIY than Insta & Pinterest, & it’s not just b/c there’s so much inspo flooding the web, altho that’s a big part of it. I think seeing everyday peeps doing things w/ everyday spaces on an everyday basis gives other everyday peeps confidence to flex the boundaries of creativity & be bolder w/ color & eclectically personal décor choices. Before these platforms exploded onto the scene, we were mostly stuck w/ what publishers & assorted bellwethers pushed as en vogue, which WAS NO INSPO b/c they left most of us trying to bridge the gap between, on one hand, a $1k budget + some dumpster diving skills &, on the other hand, a $100k room full of French antiques ingeniously paired w/ exotic & v unexpected Bolivian farm animal footstools all pulled together by a pricey pro who knows the difference between a plinth & a pelmet w/out having to look it up. THE WHY of this sea change is complex, but I think it boils down to this. IT’S EGALITARIAN! Most free-thinking peeps love overthrowing oppressive regimes & replacing them w/ democracy & diversity & freedom & most peeps want to feel they have material influence over the outcome of things, esp their own home which is the source of so many good or bad feelings depending on how beautiful or awful it looks on any given day. Plus DIY is BUDGET-FRIENDLY WAY TO FLY THE FREAK FLAG w/ out anyone w/in the range of relevance raising an eyebrow & sniffing in disapproval b/c IT NEEDS LESS COWBELL. Or maybe I’m wrong & am trying to JUSTIFY SO MUCH OF MY OWN PERSONAL TACKY. Not sure. ‍♀️

What could get Monday off to a worst start than getting a parking ticket? . Only realising you have said parking ticket when it blows off your car whilst you are driving along forcing you to pull up and carry out a finger tip search of a 500msq area that makes you look like you are filming a new TV show about people who play with imaginary metal detectors . I finally found it lodged in a rhododendron bush in an old lady's front garden. She was understandably alarmed to look out of her window to discover me rustling in her rhododendron so I am fairly sure I am now on some sort of Crime Stoppers Watch List for people caught acting suspiciously in hardy shrubbery .
