How to give yourself a reward without eating about it. ⠀

Mentally exhausted, after hours of work, my mind said one thing “I deserve a reward.” ⠀
⠀
My mind flashed back to similar feeling where I hopped in my car and zipped to the 7-11, where fresh baked cookies greeted me in little plastic packages of 6. ⠀

Mouth watering, I would justify my decision “I worked so hard today, I deserve these.”⠀
⠀
While the momentary Bliss was great. I overate them and was left with a tummy ache and guilt. ⠀
⠀
That wasn’t how I wanted to reward myself. ⠀
⠀
Most often today, I chose a reward of snuggling with my dog and watching Netflix. The Netflix permission feels luxurious. ⠀
⠀
While it doesn’t give me the same momentary feel good as food. I never have guilt and that is the best part. ⠀
⠀

I used to be afraid of eating cupcakes. ♀️⠀⠀

I thought if I had one I would open the uncontrollable gates of eating many. I often felt out of control around treats. ⠀
⠀⠀
It was a long road to learn how to eat cupcakes and other treats without the all-or-nothing mentality. I has to slowly re-introduce my trigger foods in safe ways. Each time I did well, I had to make note of it and give myself credit. ⠀
⠀⠀
Giving myself credit was key, because it allowed me to zoom in on what I was doing well, when my brain was so prone to point out what I was doing wrong. Over time this lead to confidence around my food. ⠀
⠀⠀
Now, I can enjoy a delicious cupcake if I want to. The difference is, I usually do not want to (weird, right?). I still don't keep trigger foods to close, because I don't want to rely on self-disciple when I'm stressed or tired. ⠀

When I stated re-introducing trigger foods, I struggled. I made mistakes, I overate, I wanted to quit. Instead I treated myself like I was someone I loved. I treated myself with kindness and respect. ⠀

I was myself today before I stepped up on stage. It wasn’t until I got up there and got in flow that I realised that it wasn’t about me but more so about the people I could impact with my message and I soon got out of my head and into my heart ⠀⠀

I’m taking a quick break from the Cycle of Growth mini-series to give y’all a killer shoulder exercise to add to your routine. I’ve just recently found this and it’s doing big things for me

Kneeling Smith Machine Shoulder Press
.
Here are a few benefits that the kneeling shoulder press has over a traditional standing shoulder press:
.
✅ It’s safer on your lower back because you have less room to curve your spine once the weight gets heavier or you become fatigued. I see curved spines during BB shoulder presses all the time as the meatheads let their egos take priority over form - DON’T BE A MEATHEAD ♂️ since you are kneeling in this variation, your butt has less room to shift forward and cause your spine to curve.

✅ You will target your shoulders more. With a traditional press, we often start using our legs as we tire and fatigue. The strict presses start turning into push presses and then push jerks Being in a kneeling position forces you to rely solely on your shoulders and upper body for the exercise.
.
✅ For an extra burn, hold the bar at your chest for a second before pressing into the next rep. The lack of momentum takes the exercise to the next level
.
Give these Kneeling Smith Machine Shoulder Presses a shot your next push day or upper body day! 4 sets of 8-12 will get your shoulders nice and toasty

Anyhow, here’s another dope ab workout for you guys using one of my favorite pieces of gym equipment: an exercise ball

Save this killer core circuit for the next time you want to challenge yourself at the gym!

ExBall Ab Challenge:

4 rounds with 1-2 minutes rest between rounds:
.
✅ 20: Stir the Pot (10 clockwise/10 counterclockwise)
✅ 10: Roll-Outs
✅ 20: Weighted Crunch Circles (10 clockwise/10 counterclockwise)
✅ 10: Pass-Throughs
✅ 20: Alt. Leg Punch Twists
.
Also, note that all of these exercises can be modified based on your fitness level. Stir the pots and roll-outs can be done from your knees if a plank is too challenging, the crunch circles don’t have to be weighted, the leg punches can be done without the twist, etc.
.
The important thing is to DO SOMETHING - some work is better than no work

As many of you requested, here’s a little DB ab circuit for y’all! If you don’t have access to DBs, you can do any of these exercises with just your body weight as well

I think it’s also important to point out that if you want abs, doing a bunch of ab circuits/workouts isn’t going to do the trick. Abs truly are a product of proper nutrition I used to think it was BS too, but I know it’s 100% true now.
.
I still like working my abs a couple times a week to work on building and shaping them. But in order to get them to show, you need to be putting the right stuff into your body (shameless plug: DM me if you need help with your nutrition and I can help you get those abs popping )

Anyhow, give this circuit a go and feel free to scale it however you need!
