It was such an honor being invited to the Judean Hills quartet event. It’s a group of winemakers who want to show the world how incredible the terroir of the Judean hills and israel truly is. The wineries included are @flamwinery @domaineducastel @tzora_vineyards and the non kosher @spherawinery We were delighted as the wine makers educated us on the unique qualities of the region and discussed their wines and special methods they use to get such phenomenal outcomes. The pack was lead by Master of Wine @eran_pick who championed the area with incredible confidence. His misty hills 2017 red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah blew my mind. @golanflam discussed a lot of the history that went into their family winery and shared some details of the work that goes into caring for the vineyards. Both wines presented the Classico 2017 and the reserve merlot 2016 both excellent options. I welcome the next time I get to enjoy these bottles. @egcastel the charming gentleman shared his passion for his wine as we were delighted by these top of the market choices of the “C” blanc du castel 2017 chardonnay and the grand vin 2016. We are lucky we get to enjoy these exceptional classics from Israeli soil. A robust cheese platter was prepared by non other than Brent @thecheeseguy All in all the wines selected for this intimate event for some of the best choices for the region and I hope to enjoy them many times in the future. Golan Heights Winery Yarden Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, Israel Time for my #FridayCabernetfix . Here's a beautiful one from Israel. Dark ruby in color with a short reddish rim. Nice nose of black currants, blackberries, cherries, vanilla, earth, wood, vegetables, dark coffee, herbs, tobacco leaf, spices, graphite and peppercorn. Full bodied and smooth with medium acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, bell pepper, cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, cloves, herbs, dark chocolates, coffee, peppercorn, earth, black tea and spices. Long finish with fine tannins and tangy raspberries. This Israeli Cabernet Sauvignon is always enjoyable. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel and nice complexity. Tastes like a blend of old world and new world. Needs 3 hours to open up properly and show its tannins and complexity, but good right out of the bottle also. Wine Enthusiasts 90 points. This 6 year old is very tasty now, and will age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years.
