Recommend Janeites, Attend! You need to know about this book! I reviewed this a few years ago for Library Journal. It is not to be missed.
This book covers two hundred years of the publication of the novels of Jane Austen. It talks about publishing trends, collecting, and the history of her titles. It is a comprehensive, chronological, beautiful overview of her work.
Forthwith, here are a few highlights for your edification. Swipe:
This is a beautiful oversized coffee table book with a heavy cover. You will want to spend some time with it.
There are full page quotes peppered throughout, but not too many. Some of them are gorgeously illustrated thusly
The design of the book was carefully considered, as in this spread
Sense & Sensibility and Persuasion, as illustrated by AUDREY NIFFENEGGER (!!) for the Penguin Classics Deluxe Editions
The Threads edition almost convinced me to buy a book I'd never read, for full price
They were hand drawn and then stitched, using the same satin stitch that Jane used. You can see the back of the needlework on the back of the cover! Covers are sculpt-embossed to add to the tactileness of it all.
This section is called Midcentury Jane and the covers vary wildly
Case in point - the author does not seem to care for this cover of Mansfield Park from 1962
These HarperTeen covers are said to be inspired by the Twilight aesthetic
This edition of one of Jane's juvenilia stories is in a section titled Second Spring. The intro waxes rhapsodically about Colin Firth and credits that film with courting the public's notice again.
I know everyone who is reading with #ardentlyaustenbookclub will want to take a close look at this, right @paperbackbones and @alchemyandink ? It is packed full of fodder for fans of Jane. I'll be featuring some of my Jane-related books as we read through her novels.

Did you know that Jane Austen wrote an alternate ending to Persuasion?
In July 1816, Austen finished writing Persuasion. One month later, she returned to the manuscript and rewrote the final two chapters. Though the outcome, thank goodness, remains the same, it's fascinating to see how Austen reworked her story to give the characters a more satisfactory and romantic ending. If you'd like to read them yourself, the cancelled chapters are available in many scholarly editions of Persuasion such as the Norton Critical Edition. #janeausten #janeausten200 #janeaustenfan #thisjaneaustenlife #janeite #austen #austenite #austenaugust2018 #bookpics #bookflatlay #bookishgirl #booknerds #bookjunkie #bookishpost #bookslover #bookishlife #bookworm_insta #booktography #bookpassion #bookphoto #bookalicious #booksbooksbooks #openbook #becauseofreading #vscoreads #readingissexy #ilovetoread #thereaderslounge #readersgonnaread #chooselovely @penguinrandomhouse @preview.app
In vain I have struggled not to fall in love with my new shelf. I'm still decorating it and feeling the thrill of photo ops with my favorite books. And now the first Noveltea Tins Mug arrived! It's a delightful piece featuring Elizabeth Bennet illustrated by @rivuletpaper and decor used on our Pride and Peppermint tin. We'll soon feature it in our #Novelteatins web shop and many Kickstarter backers have already pre-ordered the mug. You can too by visiting our Backerkit store. But I digress; I need more inspiration for my book nook. What do you recommend I decorate with? ☕

On this day, 200 years ago our beloved Jane Austen died.
Thank you Jane for everything. Thank you for giving us amazing books. Thank you for giving me the chance to develop my character. Without you, the literary world wouldn't be the same.
Thank you Miss Austen.

What's your favorite Austen book and what is your favorite Austen adaption?
Have you ever noticed that the apple tress bloom at midsummer in Emma? Some readers have argued that this is an example of Austen's attention to detail; she lived during the little ice age (1300-1870) when temperatures were generally cooler and the summer of 1814, when the novel is supposedly set, was particularly chilly. This could have caused the trees to bloom later than usual. Other readers argue that it is simply a mistake, as her brother Edward did when he purportedly asked Austen where she had found such late-blooming trees. What about you? What side do you fall on in the apple blossom debate? #janeausten #janeausten200 #janeaustenfan #thisjaneaustenlife #janeite #austen #austenite #openbook #bookphoto #bookpics #bookflatlay #bookblog #bookishgirl #booknerds #bookjunkie #bookishpost #bookslove #bookworm_insta #unitedbookstagram #booksbooksbooks #totalbooknerd #bookcommunity #bookgeek #bookslover #readingbreak #vscoreads #readingissexy #ilovetoread #readingaddict #chooselovely @preview.app
A N N O U N C E M E N T I'm excited to announce the launch of The Austenite Calendar, a free monthly calendar of events I created/compiled from Austen's novels.
For the next 14 months, we'll be able to experience events in the novels in real time. We'll wait alongside the Bennet sisters for the day of the Netherfield ball to arrive and go strawberry-picking with Emma at Donwell Abbey.
You'll find the AUGUST calendar in my Stories and in my Highlights (under "Calendar"). #janeausten #janeausten200 #janeaustenfan #janeaustenbooks #janeaustenbookclub #janeite #austen #austenite #austen18 #northangerabbey #senseandsensibility #prideandprejudice #mansfieldpark #readingissexy #bookishgirl #booknerds #ilovetoread #bookslover #bookjunkie #bookishpost #bookishlife #bookworm_insta #readersgonnaread #totalbooknerd #bookcommunity #booklife #alwaysreading #instareads #becauseofreading #bookpassion @preview.app
