✍May 24 QOTD: To you, which book is considered a classic or timeless? (It’s okay if your answer isn’t an actual “classic” based on societal ideals) —————— Happy Friday Inklings ♡ Recently I participated in a “Classics I’ve Read” template by @jessbetweenlines and realized I’ve had my fair share of classics in my life lol ⠀⠀ In American education systems, many students might argue that classics are “forced” upon us in our curriculum and by personal experience, sometimes it is. I was always told “Jane Austen is a classic,” but was never explained . Why is her writing so important compared to others novelists in that time period or who came after her? ⠀⠀ I loved her works when I first read them, but that was it — I just loved them. I’ll admit I first loved Emma because it was a breath of fresh air after my third year of studying Pride and Prejudice again in a classroom. I chose my dissertation on Emma and that’s when I finally learned the why. Why Austen is a literary canon to the way we view fiction and pivotal writing. How she bridged the gap between romanticism and realism in her time period and that became a revolutionary standpoint. Why we can admire her as not only a person, but as a novelist. In turn, she also changed my view in how I see my own writing. ⠀⠀ So, this upcoming June, I’m going to add more Classics to my TBR to reread with using my @juniperbooks Jane Austen execlusive editions. @miasbookblog talked about doing a small Jane Austen Book Club and reading Pride and Prejudice and Emma as our choices! I’m so happy Barnes & Noble recently added two Jane Austen books to their collectible editions. The pink ‘Persuasion’ and green ‘Sense and Sensibility’ look perfect with the original blue ‘Pride and Prejudice’! I hope Barnes & Noble eventually adds the remaking Austen titles to complete the collection! Which of these three colors are your favorite? Is there a title you would like to see added to this collection?

May 02: qotd : Which of Jane Austen’s books is your least favorite? Which of the film adaptations are your least favorite? I remember Mansfield Park and Emma tying for my least favorite. After rereading MP a couple of months ago, it is definitely in first place. We’ll have to see after I’ve read Emma again. Either way, Jeremy Northam is Mr Knightley, I don’t make the rules . Least favorite adaptation has to go to Persuasion 1995. I’m not sorry... #ardentlyaustenbookclub
