Composed a Chakkar ka Paran and a Tihai in Teentaal. I love creating new technical pieces, both for myself and my students. Between the mathematics and the aesthetics of it, I feel super comfortable now, but it's taken years of learning, absorbing, experimenting and trial and error to get here. Sometimes it starts with a simple idea, or just one rhythmic bol, or a movement I want to use, and it can go anywhere from there in a matter of seconds. HAPPY WORLD DANCE DAY! I'm now 3.5 months post partum, and couldn't be more thrilled to be back on stage after over a year, celebrating International Dance Day along with all the other classical dance institutes of Pune. Although my stamina has obviously reduced, I don't feel as shaky as I was expecting to, thanks to my latest fitness routine (daily details on my Insta-stories!) Feels so good to be back, and more so, to be sharing the stage with 8 of my students, without whom I don't think I would have this confidence so soon after my delivery. एक समय गृह सों निकसी, सखी पहन के चीर कुसुम की सारी। खेलत कूदते जाए रही, सखी जाए रही नंदलाला की बारी। काँच कली इक तोड़ ली, जिन कारण बाहर मरोड़ी मारी। "आग लगे ब्रज की बगिया, इक फूल के कारण लाखन गारी?" . . यह रचना, कथक नृत्य के जयपुर घराने की बहुत पुरानी रचना है। अक्सर कथक नृत्य में अंत मे भाव पक्ष की प्रस्तुति में कोई ठुमरी की जाती है और जब मैंने सबसे पहली ठुमरी मंच पर प्रस्तुत की थी ,तब इस ही कविता से शुरुआत की थी। यह तस्वीर मुझे इस कविता की याद दिलाता है । इस ही कविता से जुड़ा एक और पोस्ट जल्द ही आपके समक्ष लाने का विचार है। This is a traditional compositions from the Jaipur Gharana of Kathak Dance. Often Kathak Artistes end their recitals by presenting the Bhaav (expression) aspect of Kathak with a thumri or ghazal. The first time I ever performed a thumri, I began my presentation with this poem. This photo reminds me of this poem. The floral dupatta, garden like background and the flower of course! The handmade neckpiece I am wearing is made of fabric, unique in shape and in my most favourite color. I call it the "jhoola" neckpiece.
