By that logic, Last year this day, at this time took the trip of my lifetime( so far!) to Benares/Kashi/Varanasi . A while ago had seen a picture of a Danseuse who did not receive her due acclaims in her lifetime...Shanta Rao... just one picture from the net hooked me on and I remained in awe of the Expression and Dance Style she possessed which were exclusively hers and portrayed her as Frank, Honest and Fearless ... Did a lot of reading on her which further led me to the bond she shared with my current muse..#AliceBoner- A #Swiss artist from an affluent family whose love for travel and form led her to India (Varanasi)in the 1930's. She eventually made it her home for the next 4 decades..(of course there are reams of material about her on the net..but my discovery of her,remains a very personal one). After having read about her trails in the Reitberg Museum-Zurich and my talks with Regine...I was enamored,by the fact that ,8 decades back a Lady had embarked on her personal journey all the way to Assi Ghat in Benares abandoning the luxuries of her native Swiss land and contributed much to have received the prestigious Padma Bhushan,then. A visit to her Indian abode of 40 years left me truly connected and complete....and wanting to experience more of the aura, that her space held. . #longpostalert After many years on Women's Day I am not speaking at any event. No, I didn't turn down any opportunity, no one approached me this year. Till last year, the scenario was different, I did have to choose between opportunities. I am not heading renowned organisations anymore, now that I have just started out on my own again. So probably the world would not want to hear from a struggling woman, her take on what this day and all other days of her life mean to her, being a woman. I kind of like this feeling of being 'the girl with no name'. It gives me solace in knowing, understanding and spending time to retrospect my journey, to really analyse what is it that I have achieved and why should people want to know my story. What difference will it make to their lives? I have so much more to do and learn, what is it that I can tell that they already wouldn't know. Each person's journey is different and so what I tell them without knowing their story maybe so irrelevant. However, I don't undermine the inspiration quotient that one draws from each other's story. So this year, I want to promise myself to do more meaningful work that can inspire more women and men. I am still far away from that. This year, I definitely need to acknowledge that I am a better version of myself. Willing to take more risks, breaking my own stereotypes (including my saree draping style ) and working with some amazing women across the country whose stories inspire me. Also, making my journey more meaningful this year are some amazing men, not acknowledging them would be unfair on the part of a feminist. I wish for all of you to find your life's calling as I have found mine. Happy Women's Day!!
