Caption/photo taken from @britishroyaljewels In 1858, Queen Victoria lost a legal battle against her Uncle the King of Hanover over the ownership of diamonds which had once belonged to Queen Charlotte. Among the jewels she had to relinquish was a diamond collet necklace. To replace the lost necklace, Queen Victoria has Garrards remove diamonds from a Garter badge and sword hilt and create a new necklace. She completed it with the Lahore Diamond, one of her Indian treasures, as a pendant. A set of earrings were created to match the necklace. After her death these jewels were left to the Crown. Today the necklace is known as The Coronation Necklace as it has been worn by the Queen at every coronation that had taken place since its creation.

Updated Post: This necklace is rich in Royal history. although not owned by the Royal Family, was last worn by a royal lady. The history of this necklace begins in 1613 when Elizabeth Stuart, daughter of King James VI, married the future King of Bohemia and was gifted three pearls by the City of London. The pearls were inherited by her son Prince Rupert and sold by his daughter Ruperta Hughes. They were acquired by Sarah, Duchess of Marlborough and bequeathed to her grandson John Spencer. The diamond pendants acquired by Sarah, Duchess of Marlborough during the sale of the Duchess of Shrewsbury's jewels in 1726. Finally, Sarah recurved the diamonds in the necklace as a gift from Queen Anne. The necklace was passed down through the Earls Spencer and is owner by the present Earl, brother of Princess Diana. The necklace was worn by Charlotte, Countess Spencer in the later 1800's. The necklace was borrowed by Princess Diana in the 1980's from her brother. Most recently it was born by Karen, the current Countess Spencer at an event in the National Portrait Gallery.
