My hometowns local news station, @wtol11toledo shared an article today with a clickbait headline of “herbal supplement Kratom is tied to more US deaths.” Let’s unpack this so we can debunk kratoms bad wrap. Kratom (the green powder in the tablespoon I am holding), is a plant from Southeast Asia that has been used for centuries and is in the coffee family. More recently, westerners have been turning to Kratom as an effective, better alternative to reduce chronic pain and stress (amongst other things), as it works on the same receptors as opioids, without a lot of the gnarly side effects (like severe addiction & a feeling of being high) that come with taking prescription pain killers. The DEA has been trying tirelessly to make kratom illegal and a schedule 1 drug- meaning that it has no medicinal value, has a high abuse potential, and severe safety issues - and lumping it in the same category heroin, LSD, cocaine, and cannabis are in. The DEA is doing this under severe pressure from the pharmaceutical companies to ban their competition, because a product that they can’t make money off from, that reduces their profits is very threatening. So queue all of the mainstream media fear porn. In order to help sway the public towards the idea of making Kratom an illegal schedule 1 drug, now you will see articles from the mainstream media who are leading with clickbait headlines about how people are dying from Kratom use. If one just reads the headline, it’s a pretty profound reason to ban such a product- no one wants people to die- but if you take a look at the articles themselves or do some digging, you will learn that the people who are dying with Kratom in their system also have a cocktail of a variety of different drugs that were more likely to kill them such as heroin, meth, and alcohol. I’m not saying Kratom is for everyone, it *can be* habit forming but I’d much rather it be an option for people than not an option. In 2017 47 THOUSAND Americans died at the hands of opioids, but I can’t find one legitimate article stating that kratom use alone was responsible for any deaths. MORE BELOW

How I look vs how I feel 90% of days. Vertigo hits it real hard. The room spins even with my eyes closed. I was forking out hundreds for 1000mg cbd vials. It was an absolute BLESSING to follow my @thefreylife @freyliving sweatshirt motto and make it out to dad’s office for a little while today, finally able to see it after it was redone several years ago. He’s accepted a transfer about 5 hours away, so he’s gonna be boxing it all up soon, and even though this isn’t the office where I spent time or where I have many memories as a kid, it’s just as emotional as if it were (and it’s right down the hall, honestly), because it’s my dad he has so much of his personality in this room. Also, he wouldn’t want me to say it because he’s super humble, but I am so beyond proud to call him my daddy, and also of everything he’s done and the hardworking example he’s set for us our whole lives. You can’t see all the office pics here (I may share them in my story), because I wanted a photo of dad and me behind his desk. We took a few, but I wanted to share this one, because I intentionally took off most of my medical aids/tools, so I could quickly stand and hold onto dad as Rog snapped the pic, with both of us smiling.

Kratom is the next step for me to try for pain relief! Kratom is actually illegal in Wisconsin and I have been wanting to try it for quite some time. I have studied Kratom and though some are against this plant I think that it is the route for me to try next! I have been seeing it advertised in smoke shops around here and have been waiting for the funds to try it. At the expo I ended up getting some free samples and I am so grateful! This is now day 3 and I feel like it does lower my pain a bit, but I am figuring out my dosing. Some people take 2 at a time, some take 8 so slowly I am increasing to see what my body can handle and what will give me maximum pain relief. It is sad and disgusting that so many natural alternative medicines are illegal and if this works I may need to join the kratom fight along side with cannabis. We deserve pain relief and to live our best quality of life regardless of what it may be.
