A few changes I’d make to this image—1.) I’d say it’s NEVER our job to change anyone. And 2.) people aren’t toxic. But we all, from time to time, engage in toxic behavior. . What I like about this is the call to own our own “toxicity.” To turn the microscope back on to ourselves and make the necessary adjustments in order to stop resonating with behaviors that no longer suit us. . This is not meant to be victim blame-y. While I do believe that we tend to attract certain patterns and dynamics until we are able to work through our baggage with them, I don’t believe that this excuses abuse or shifts responsibility to victims. . One of the absolute best ways to get free of toxic dynamics is through becoming aware of how we contribute to them and why we may (emphasis on *may*) seek out those types of situations and people. . Abuse is never our fault, but getting clear on patterns and recognizing warning signs can help us avoid and/or remove ourselves from unhealthy situations sooner. . ❤️❤️❤️ . This is a often unexpected side affect of engaging in inner child work—we not only become more loving and compassionate toward ourselves but we are way easier on others as well. . Once we begin to accept our own humanness and all the imperfections that naturally come with that, we can begin appreciate the humanness in others. . Less judgement of self, and by natural extension, others = a deeper capacity for connection, vulnerability, and intimacy. And as a result, often healthier, happier, more securely attached relationships. . Because too often the person in the family that is ready to heal intergenerational trauma is ostracized. Seen as strange or different, scapegoated, exiled, teased for not falling into line with the familial status quo, etc. . Being the healer of the family is not for the faint of heart. . Most of the time these people are highly empathic, intuitive, intelligent, and brave as well. It takes a ton of courage and resolve to face the pain that everyone we are closest to has silently agreed to pretend doesn’t exist. . Body positivity, and by natural extension, sex positivity—because the two are so intimately related—are two things I feel really passionately about. . I come from a long lineage of women who have body image issues, and who unknowingly passed those issues down through the generations to their children. . I’m 100% committed to not passing along that limiting, soul-killing, creativity-dampening, pleasure-stealing, shame-inducing toxicity down to my daughter. . And I am 100% committed to healing that shit within myself. Not only for her, but FOR ME. . We deserve to feel comfortable in our own skin. We deserve to feel sexy. . We deserve to derive pleasure from our bodies, regardless of if they fit the patriarchies impossibly narrow beauty standards or not. . This mindset that tries to separate us from our deepest forms of knowing is the same that burned witches at the stake centuries ago. .
