Kindergarten Curriculum⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ I wanted to share what we’ll be using for kindergarten this fall. My daughter starts school a week after she turns five, so she’s still pretty young, but she’s ready! ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ For our MAIN CURRICULUM we’re using:⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ Five in a Row. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ I have some old blog posts about our FIAR lessons if you want to see how it works, or check out “FIAR Owl Moon” in my highlights. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ LANGUAGE ARTS:⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ We will continue using Jot it Down from Brave Writer and @thegoodandthebeautiful Level Pre-K. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣MATH:⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ We will be using Charlotte Mason Elementary Arithmetic alongside @thegoodandthebeautiful ⁣⁣⁣.⁣⁣⁣ I had originally planned on ONLY using the CM math with her, but she was so excited about TGATB when she saw her brother using it, so I’m going to see how it goes. I’ll keep you posted on which one she likes the best! They really couldn’t be more opposite and I appreciate the “mental” math practice and short lessons (with very little prep work) that the CM book provides. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ NATURE STUDY:⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ We’ll keep using the family friendly Exploring Nature with Children and our @twigandmoth nature journals. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣___________________________________________________________⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣And that’s it! This is how I left (what I’m affectionately calling) our “homeschool nook” when we left TX for our trip. I have (obviously) yet to unpack all of our items and I keep daydreaming about how I want these shelves to look. I cannot wait to finish setting up and get our space under control!✨ I did order and receive our first grade curriculum, so I feel like I’m in the game a little bit! In the meantime, Ill be enjoying summer while daydreaming of slowing down and falling into a new family rhythm in our new home. Living somewhere new makes it feel as though there is a whole world of possibilities to create and establish new family rhythms. ⁣Have you ever tried putting together a themed morning time for little ones? ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ It’s really easy to do! I’m using the summer morning time guide from @agentlefeast but have done these before on my own. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ Here’s all you need:⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ 1. Choose a theme. This one is seaside.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣2. A different bible verse for each day or a focused character study for the week. A good one for this might be the importance of obedience/water safety.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣3. Pick a piece of classical music and/or a hymn. This guide suggested Antonio Vivaldi summer.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣4. Find a piece of art that goes with your theme. A quick google search will pull up many ideas.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣5. Choose your themed poems. I found several seaside poems in this one book from Random House Book of Poetry for Children. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣6. Add a few picture books! Morning baskets and journaling: I’ve been getting questions about both of these things so I figured I’d do a post so I didn’t miss responding to anyone’s comments. morning basket: I am such an amateur on this topic.. but I have decided, to me, it’s basically anything I don’t typically get to in the day.. it’s a stack of books that I want to read to my girls.. religion, art, chapter book, journals, or games and fun things that we can do together to start the day off with a nice rhythm. I have come to find out that everyone does different things with their baskets and it’s all personal preference. • Journaling: I personally have been journaling on my own to clear my head and just because it’s calming to me.. my girls have woken up when I was in the middle of writing or drawing and then asked if they could do the same. So I made sure I got them each a journal to call their own and when they ask me what to write, my response is “whatever you want”.. I told them that I often write things I want to remember that happened the day before or what I’m feeling and I like to just draw random things.. so they follow suit.. they write things they have done the day before and then they draw from their art books or just random things that they want. We all have our own morning basket now. Oh and another thing I did was buy lots and lots of gel pens! They aren’t allowed to use pens for their school work so they can erase, so to have them to use freely really excites them! Kindergarten years: This morning I mentioned how I planned and that I used the Home Learning book to set up my girl’s kindergarten plans.. I will share tomorrow my personal notes/list I put together based off the book and what I use as my guide for the kindergarten years. Right now I’m laying the ground work for the years to come... later I’ll go down this list I plan on sharing and make sure I get crafts and one on one time with her to help her review/learn these things but since she just turned five, we are taking it slow ❤️ • • We’ve been having a lot of fun the last couple days.. I’ve been teaching some super heroes this week • • The human body had proven to be one of our favorite studies already.. I’m starting the unit off by reading a few books to set a base for the fun hands-on learning I am planning.. today we did our fingerprints.. it’s great the conversations that come up as we dive into this..
