So, it's the day after Valentine's Day, and I wanted to talk about the fact that I saw het book recs, and mlm book recs, but I saw NO lesbian or wlw book recommendations at ALL. Now, I know so many of the internet have a mlm fetish, and the majority of y'all are het, so that's what you naturally gravitate towards, but christ, people, STOP sleeping on lesbian and wlw books!! The story deals with how she handles having a faith where people condemn her sexuality alongside the romantic plot. I’ve got another religious LGBT novel coming up as well. - - - Joanna Gordon has been out and proud for years, but when her popular radio evangelist father remarries and decides to move all three of them from Atlanta to the more conservative Rome, Georgia, he asks Jo to do the impossible: to lie low for the rest of her senior year. And Jo reluctantly agrees. Although it is (mostly) much easier for Jo to fit in as a straight girl, things get complicated when she meets Mary Carlson, the oh-so-tempting sister of her new friend at school. - Oranges are not the only Fruit | 4.5⭐️ - Oranges are not the only fruit primarily concerns Jeanette, the adopted daughter of a radically devout Christian woman, and her journey of self-discovery. - Winterson explores many interesting themes in this novel. In chapter 5 she painstakingly takes the time to argue that history – and stories – are never fully true as they are framed by a subjective author. I can only speculate that this theme is so forcefully included in the novel due to the similarities between Jeanette’s life and the early life of Winterson herself. Nevertheless, this does raise an interesting line of thought. Winterson is directly encouraging the reader to second guess, or rather take Jeanette’s narration with a pinch of salt. Consequently, forcing the reader to think over elements of the novel that many - myself Included -would have only aesthetically enjoyed otherwise. - Another element to the novel which I particularly enjoyed was the recurring theme of journeying to self-discovery. Winterson frames that theme among Christlike imagery and with references to myths. Honestly, any book with references the Aruthurian legends – in this case it was Sir Perceval – immediately jumps in my estimations. Within this journey, Winterson uses Lot’s Wife – who turned into a pillar of salt after defying God and looking back at Sodom and Gomorrah – as a metaphor to show how malleable she believes one’s life to be. For her, you cannot continue to live while you are looking into the past, but instead you must acknowledge what you once were in childhood whilst recognising that in adulthood you are different. - However, I think the theme which I most enjoyed was the concept of religion vs. The church. Winterson raises an interesting question about whether one can separate their own faith from organised religion, and she considers how easily religious institutions can become corrupt and far removed. This idea circles back into one of Winterson’s earlier themes; She suggests that the bible, like history, has been written in subjectivity, and therefore falls somewhere between truth and fiction. - Overall, it is a brilliantly witty and philosophical novel. -

Another huge part of my life is reading. I love to read! Most times i read lesbian romance. Its such a small genre therefore i love to recommend it to all of you out there!
