All terrain training!! Working on different surfaces is great for your horse’s proprioception, body awareness and confidence. This clip is from a few years ago when we had a delivery of sand for the arena and India was very curious about it, so we just played around on it together. You can really see how she enjoyed exploring the sand pile and took a few attempts before she felt really confident to go for the top. All terrain training is about using the natural environment to improve your horse’s physical strength and awareness just as wild horses do. It’s fun and brings in interest and variety to your horse’s life and your time together, so I recommend incorporating some all-terrain training into your sessions. Of course, start small - just look for different surfaces, small steps or slopes to begin with and progress in difficulty as your horse’s confidence, skills and strength improve so that you don’t over face your horse :-) If you’d like more ideas and information, all terrain training is part of my Gymnastic Groundwork Home Study Course in the CT Club. how to get your horses to engage while on grass? my best tip is if they want to eat just let them! here’s examples of how it can be when we’re out. i thought at first that we were just going out for eating but freja really wanted to play so i thought let’s put up the camera but then unfortunately her lust for play had kinda gone and lust for grass had taken over. when that happens i do try ask just a little more for play but then i just let hear eat. we can play another time when she feels for it. one big reason why they do engage with me is because they know it’s on their terms, and to engage with me does not mean they have to give up the thought of eating grass. • if you want to be able to play on grass, this is key i think; that your horse knows play/engaging with you does not mean end of grass time. try this; be on grass and let your horse eat. try get their focus and give lots of reward for that, even smallest second of focus. then let your horse go back to eating grass! and do this plenty of times. focus, lots of reward, keep eating! focusing on you should not mean end of yummy time, but just another pleasant time. yes, at one point you have to go home, but after eating a bit and knowing grass will be offered again you can just play your way home. give this a little time, i promise it will work! • and some days it’ll be like for us this day, where no one is really interested in playing. those days just don’t. be an awesome friend for your horse and just let them do what i think they actually love the most; eat grass!✨ • • • • • • • • • #happytraining #libertyhorse #liberty #libertytraining #horse #greyhorse #horsesofinstagram #instahorse #equine #pferde #equestrian #clickertraining #klickerträning #klicker #positivereinforcement #equestrianlife #myhearthorse #loveforlife #frejasuperstar

Gisteren heb ik dressuur met haar gereden het ging heel erg goed! ik ben met Lilli vooral bezig met sturen met mijn zit, stelling (dit probeer ik ook vooral met mijn zit) en overgangen (ook zo veel mogelijk met zit) ik werk dus eigenlijk vooral aan hulpen geven met mijn zit ik kan dat wel al want als ik met neckrope rijd lukt dat goed maar ik merkte een tijdje geleden dat ik onbewust toch te weinig met mijn zit deed en te veel met mijn teugels gelukkig gaat het nu al veel veel beter en gebruik ik mijn teugels eigenlijk alleen nog maar om haar nageeflijk te vragen en dat doe ik ook met zo klein mogelijke hulpen ik vind ook dat veel mensen het bit misbruiken.. als een paard iets niet snapt of iets fout doet gaan ze maar aan de teugels trekken, gewoon uit machteloosheid. Dat vind ik echt niet terecht want het paard snapt dan niet wat hij fout doet.. Vandaag komt de dierenarts om de tanden van Y&L te doen daarna laten we haar nog even naar onze kat kijken want die zijn we bijna een week kwijt geweest en gisteren hebben we hem terug gevonden en hij heeft een wond op zijn achterpootje en het lijkt wel alsof zijn achterbenen verlamd zijn hopelijk is dat niet zo want dan is de kans groot dan hij ingeslapen moet worden • #neckroperiding#freeriding#libertyriding#libertytraining#naturalhorsemanship#fjordhorse#horsemanship

i always get a lot of questions about wether i ride or not, or if it’s even possible to ride with clicker. i always answer i hardly ever ride but that it is absolutely 100% possible. it’s just as with any other +R though, tiny steps. what’s hard is letting go of what you know in your core about how it should feel, cause everything you’ve learned with pressing a horse into a frame is not suitable for +R. instead just play with it. observer what you have without all equipment, i bet you’ll notice quite some communication, and how awesome is that?! • for those of you wondering about some hands on tips, here’s a list of what’s important to me while riding. . - ask permission. can i sit? jump on slowly and notice if your horse is moving away, then stop and maybe ask again in a while. .
