Update on illegally demolished Silverlake Moderne - criminal developer speaks “It wasn’t exactly pretty...” says Anup Jogani (pictured in the third image) via @lamag who cited our last post on their article, essentially painting Jogani as an innocent victim in his recent criminal act, which has been publicly criticized by city council member @mitchofarrell . Mitch O'Farrell describes the illegal and shocking demolition as “disregard of the community, it’s history, and in outright ignorance of how important architecture and preservation is in Los Angeles." Jogani sidesteps any responsibility for his choices in the following statement describing his plans for a brand new faux-Victorian style commercial building in this 1930s Art Deco neighborhood ... “Who doesn’t like distressed brick and beautiful exterior window treatments? At least I’m trying.... At least I’m trying to do something beautiful... If I have to let go of a beautiful brick facade, I might. But the unfortunate part is that the front of the building—I hate to be quoted saying this—but it wasn’t exactly pretty,” he says. It seems the community of Silverlake does not Mr. Jogani. It seems the community is devastated by this destruction of its architectural legacy. Although Anup Jogani may not understand the significance of this “not exactly pretty” building’s beauty and significance, the community has spoken out quite to the contrary.
