This coin made me laugh out loud when I found it! The words “IN MEMORY OF THE GOOD OLD DAYS” are written on the token which is dated 1768. Today we consider 30 or 40 years ago to be “the good old days.” I wonder what they considered to be the good old days back in 1768 . This brass token is a fake guinea coin from King George III which was used for gambling over 250 years ago. Nowadays casinos use colourful plastic discs as their gambling chips. In the 18th century, gambling clubs were very popular, and gambling tokens were made as crude imitations of guineas or half guinea coins which were the most valuable gold coins at that time period. This cranberry glass etched perfume bottle was my find of the day yesterday - picked up in the first five minutes, as is so often the way! * I associate this sort of bottle with my treasure hunting friend in NYC @girlfindstreasure - who has an extraordinary collection. I date it by style to circa 1910, in other words, high Edwardian era. The owl and griffin/dragon/phoenix [?] motif is identical on each side, inlaid with gold. I’m guessing this is inspired by an Oriental legend - but after a brief search I haven’t found anything conclusive.
