So this is the lastest site @structuredwiring and I finished up on Monday. There really are no before shots as the server, netwirk rack, phones, snd cameras were just shoved into any corner they coukd fit them into. • Yes, this site was a converted barn with veternsry offices attached and built into the barn space. And yes, it was hotter than hell up that barn, but that was our only access space to run all new cables to a proper, centralized rack location. • For network, we deployed an ISR1100 router/firewall from @cisco, twin 48-port 500W PoE UNIFI switches from @ubiquitinetworks, and 3 AC-PRO access points also from Ubiquiti. Cabling, keydtine jacks, snd patch panels were provided by @verticalcable. UPS units and PDU are from @eatonperformance. So this is the last site @structuredwiring and I did before I cut out on vacation. I've hinted at this before, but I'm not kidding, the site was haunted. Not in an evil malicious kind of way. No, Timmy, the name we gave the ghost, was a prankster. He just liked to mess with us to keep us on our toes and remind us that he was still there • I switched phones right before I left and failed to copy the before pictures for this site. But if you have been following, you saw them in my stories where I was joking about napalm given thst all the equipment was LITERALLY suspended by the ISP coax and an amalgam of patch cords. ‍♂️ • Anyways, despite Timmy's best efforts to get in our way, we got this site done and transformed into something workable and manageable. All of the existing equipment was pulled and we did a full rewire to accommodate all of the new equipment and to centralize everything into an unused corner of their basement. • For network, we deployed an ISR1100 router/firewall from @cisco, twin 24-port 500W PoE UNIFI switches from @ubiquitinetworks, and 2 AC-PRO access points also from Ubiquiti. Cabling was provided by @verticalcable while all keystone jacks, wall plates, and patch panels were from @leviton. UPS units and PDU are from @eatonperformance. As always, everything was built upon a solid open-frame 21U rack from @chatsworthproducts and my youngest son picked out a pair of rack guardians for overwatch duties from @lego. • For phones we just migrated their existing VoIP setup into the top of the rack. Those of that have been following me for a while know I'm a huge fan of Leviton QuickPort keystone jacks for CAT5e/CAT6 terminations. Up to this week, it is essentially all we have installed. • When I got back from vacation there was a surprise package from @verticalcable waiting for me. In it was a demo of their V-Max 1-punch multipunch tool and samples of their V-Max keystones in CAT5e, CAT6, and CAT6A varieties. • First impression was solid so I've ordered enough to do this week's site and we will see how they do in the field. • Initial advantages I'm seeing when compared to the JackRapid multipunch from @fluke are: • 1 - No need to switch insets when you punch different categories of keystone. The JackRapid has an additional insert you have to purchase to terminate CAT6. Though the action is the same, it doesn't perform as well as the CAT5e insert and the keystones often get stuck. Not to mention the extra cost. • 2 - Simplicity as the conductor lacing pattern is the same on all categories of V-Max jacks. The Leviton jacks are different based on which category is being terminated - much easier to make a mistake. • 3 - The V-Max multipunch is all metal and feels better in my hands with the extra weight. • 4 - Honestly, the V-Max jacks just feel sturdier.
