Maine Coast Milky Way Panorama I finally had a chance to do my first Milky Way panorama of the year a few nights ago on the Bold Coast of Maine. This will be the last year I offer Maine workshops until I’m not sure when, so come before they’re gone for a while! In September we are hitting the road full time in our RV and we won’t be in Maine next summer. Nikon Z 6 with FTZ adapter and NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8 lens. This is a blend of two panoramas, one for the sky and one for the foreground. All shots were f/2.8 and 14mm. The sky is from 8 vertical shots at ISO 6400 and 20 seconds. The foreground is from 8 vertical shots at ISO 5000 and 2 minutes to capture more light for the foreground. I used the Nodal Ninja RD16-II rotator and nodal rail. The rotator makes it very easy to set click stops for certain degrees of rotation, so I don’t have to turn on my headlamp and look at the panning base, I just set the rotator to 30 degree click-stops and pan the camera in the dark between each shot. The two panoramas were stitched separately in Photoshop. I tried using Lightroom’s built-in panorama tool but, as I often experience, it sometimes doesn’t do well with night images like this and I ended up with seams and weird issues. Photoshop, however, had no problem. I then blended the sky panorama and the foreground panorama in Photoshop, and finished with some additional noise reduction using Nik Dfine, and creative edits using adjustment layers in Photoshop.

Blocking in a favorite coastal town today.

Leitmotif Opus 12 Kettle Sour 4.4% with Maine blueberries. Early flight into Logan, straight into meetings after being awake 36 hours straight (that's right, real business owners take risks and get little to no sleep), and a quick stop to change at my hotel out of business attire, I finally arrived @exhibitabrewing Framingham, MA. Many people don't know about Exhibit A, but after receiving cans in trades from some of my favorite Massholes, @mik3b4z @beerasart, and @mrileyfam KNEW I had to stop in to this awesome brewery. Exhausted, I asked the smiling brewtender for a flight and one small request, “May I take this selfie here?” (right in his way no less) and he kindly obliged. And who is this awesome guy from Exhibit A? His name is Adam. Let’s talk about service...according to the brewery, "Above all else, we promise to cultivate and foster a positive place to work for our staff and design and operate a brewery where our guests feel welcome and appreciated." Adam must have been paying attention during orientation meetings because he was exactly what I needed - a tall smiling gentleman who ignored my exhausted face & work out gear, made pleasant small talk, and made me feel comfortable from the start. THANK YOU for being on the front lines of the tap room and for actually loving your job - you could tell, you do!
