Hard conversation today with my doctor. Words like "ileus" "torsion" "ileostomy" "obstruction" and "TPN" were used. I haven't really posted about this before because I was hoping it would get better, but my digestive system's limited function has seriously declined. For those of you who don't know, I have a feeding tube (since 2014) due to gastroparesis, colonic inertia, and MCAS, caused by my EDS. Basically my whole GI tract is severely compromised. I cannot survive without my feeding tube. I do eat a little each day to prevent atrophy. Last year I had started introducing food after a couple years of nothing at all, and was doing well, but then I slowly started reacting to everything and now I'm down to one food (white potato, it causes symptoms but I can bear it if I eat at night). I cling to this one food. Anyway, things have gotten worse, for no apparent reason. My bowel habits are far from normal and have gotten more abnormal. I have constant diarrhea alternating with severe constipation, which I was managing (I define managing as staying out of the ER) and obstructions and/or pseudo obstructions, which cause attacks of crippling agony. Since I can't get to imaging during these attacks, we don't know exactly what is going on, but I had CTs last year that showed an ileus that resolved itself by the next CT. So it seems like this is just happening over and over. Which puts me at risk for seriously unpleasant complications. It's honestly hard to talk about this because it's so grim. I feel detached from it, like I'm talking about someone else. I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty worried. We are hoping this will eventually improve and we will be able to avoid drastic measures. I do always decline in general during the winter, so maybe come spring this will just resolve itself. For now he's putting me on Linzess, which I had a bad reaction to a few years ago but this is a different dose. He says "it's time." (BTW anyone get good results from Linzess?) So for now I try the med and pray, and see where the next few months take me. And try to cast my worries on Jesus, and not let them weigh me down. Because I CAN do all things through Him who strengthens me.
