My amalgamation draws close. Over the next week you are going to see a number of shots of my sorting. You see, I collect #matchbox models from the beginning of the Superfast era (late 1969) right up to modern (still hunting down the latest). As the @matchboxworld team are celebrating 50 years of the Superfast era next year, it is extremely important to me as that means my collection will also be spanning 50 years too. I was born in 1972 so never really saw any pre-Superfast stuff so it never resonated with me the same way as the Superfast did. But as many know, my collection is all loose. I take everything out the packages, but they have to be stored somehow. I don't have space in my home for wall displays to cover it all, so for me everything goes in to Matchbox branded carry cases. It is important that the cases are Matchbox branded too. After all, I only collect the 1 brand, so why should I store them in other brands of cases? I like the cases with the 12-car trays inside. My go-to case of choice is the 48-car case. Nice & simple, a box with 4 trays inside. Easy to stack, easy to manage. I do have a load of 24-car tool box style cases too. Plus 2x 36-car cases which I will swap out for 3x tool boxes one day. I had them growing up & so they stay with me. But what I like to do is keep each casting together. So all my Hazard Trucks will be in 1 place. All the BMW 850i models will be together. & So on. But the problem is once I amalgamate I am immediately buying new stuff to add. Last time I amalgamated was early 2016, & over the last 2 & a half years I have picked up a few more. All these to be exact. 32 full cases of 48+ (a couple of slots are doubled as I know I could slot 2 Gyrospheres in 1 slot & 2 Skidsters etc). Case 33 has just begun with more newbies. The thing is there is no order to these. New stuff comes in, I put in cases ready to sort. I now have well over 1500 models completely unsorted ready to amalgamate into the main collection.
