Proprio così mi immaginavo di esplorare il Delta del Mekong con i suoi mercati galleggianti: seduta sulla punta di una piccola imbarcazione locale con un “nón lá” in testa e una macchina fotografica rovente tra le mani. Qualche giorno fa però ho seriamente pensato di non riuscire a fare questa foto. Una bruttissima turbolenza in aereo ci ha fatto temere il peggio. Dovete sapere che volare è una delle mie più grandi paure, vivo con grande angoscia ogni decollo pur avendone centinaia alle spalle. Are you into temples and culture? Then this one is surely for you: the buddhist temple Wat Rong Khun, also known as the White Temple of Chiang Rai. I have to say that I have seen many different temples along my journeys but few of them were as impressive as this one. Look at all the little details like at the beginning part of the entrance to it. Seems like hundreds of hands trying to grab you. Scary and magnificent at the same time! I’m really curious, how long it took, to build this up. Iif one of you has some background stories about this temple, please share it. Afterwards we went to visit the blue temple, which is quite central and in my opinion also a must-see, while you are in Chiang Rai. Then, if you have some time, I would suggest to drive out of the city. Depending on your preferences, you can either go an a little hike at the border to Laos including a breathtaking view, or drive to the north, where you can see a monkey cave and the border to Myanmar. We chose to drive to the Golden Triangle, which is a bit more than 1 hr from Chiang Rai by scooter. This is the point where you can look over the Mekong river and see both Laos and Myanmar. In any case, I can definitely recommend you to rent a scooter because that makes it so much easier to quickly drive around and visit all the great spots. All in all a super intense week but fully loaded with beautiful things to see.
