The day before this session was a really hard day for me. I felt down, depleted, done. Heading out the next morning I had to try to snap myself out of it, but nothing worked. As soon as I walked in the door, something shifted in me and I was feeling lighter. As I watched and observed this family loving one another and their new babe, I was slowly absorbing their energy. It was like magic. This is a photograph of Lacie singing sweet lullaby’s to her mumma and baby brother. And also to me. It was exactly what I needed. My art and their warmth and love and light ✨

Everyday I have a million things on my to do list. My house is a bit of a disaster and I should probably start thinking about packing. Buttttt... then I see these pretty eyes and I just stop and stare

I often think about what it means to be a mum. I mean, I get to photograph so many gorgeous mums and mums-to-be, each one of them completely different from the other, all with their own set of hopes, dreams, worries and fears. . Like all others before me, my life transformed when I became a mum. Wholly, utterly, completely. And not just my personal life - my own hopes, dreams, worries and fears - but everything about my working life as well. All in the BEST possible way and so much better than I could have imagined. . If it weren’t for my kids, I never would have become a photographer. I would not have learnt to look for all those seemingly ordinary but truly miraculous moments that make a family. The calm, the chaos, and everything in between. And now I get to document these things every day, for my family and for yours, and I absolutely LOVE it. . I know a lot of of us worry what our lives are going to be like once we have kids, and there’s no denying they change COMPLETELY, but none of what I am or what I have would be possible without my family. My best life began when I became a mum and I wouldn’t have it any other way ✨

Real talk? Visiting your homes makes me a better parent. This family led me to learn I have the habit of micro-managing my small humans faaaaar too much. Case in point..? This teeny tot can make Saturday morning pancakes for the family *all by herself*. As in entirely - from which ingredients she need and how much of each, down to which vessels and scoops she needs to measure the varying quantities. Meanwhile I'm still buttering my five year old's toast. #whoops Our babies really are far more capable than we realise. <3 @thelasercuttingstudio x
