2014 ... we just met and we were 39. We were sitting at a bar and a lady came in with her 5 grown daughters. We started chatting and she told me she had her youngest at 45 and it made me so happy. I’ve had people ask me why we’re doing this. ⁣ ⁣ Why we’re spending so much money, effort and time trying to grow our family. ⁣ ⁣ First of all, it’s no ones business but ours. ⁣ ⁣ But also, I *don’t* really know why I feel such a strong pull to be a mother. ⁣ ⁣ And sometimes I wish I did know. ⁣ ⁣ It seems like it would make it easier to keep going if I had a solid answer for that question. ⁣ ⁣ But I don’t. I just know I want to be a mother. ⁣ ⁣ I want the soccer games and fights about skirts that are too short. ⁣ ⁣ Flour thrown all around the kitchen because I had a “helper” making chocolate chip cookies. ⁣ ⁣ Snuggles before bed while reading the same book for the 100th time. ⁣ ⁣ Pictures on the walls because there was no paper but inspiration struck that little brain. ⁣ ⁣ And little arms wrapped around my neck. ⁣ ⁣ Maybe I do know why we’re doing this. ⁣ ⁣ But I can’t put it into words someone without kids or the desire for kids can understand. ⁣ ⁣ Why do you want to be a mother? Or if you are a mother, what’s the best part of having littles?

Sometimes we will be too busy to attend that gathering or catch up for that coffee. Sometimes we will be too busy trying to mentally and emotionally survive the day. Support your grieving person by allowing space for them to cancel plans or decline an invitation and do so without judgement. Some days it can feel impossible for the grieving person to function. You are all so amazing. I was scared to post my last post. I didn’t really know what the reaction was going to be like, and my chest was tight as I waited for it. But the amount of love, positivity, and genuine happiness I received in response has absolutely blown me away. Thank you so much for your messages- every single one of them made me smile. I learned that some of you had the same thing happen, some of you just found out you’re pregnant from IVF, and for a lot of you, this has given you hope. It turns out that this community doesn’t care HOW you become a mom, everyone is just rooting for you to do so. I promise that I’m still out there fighting the good fight. For everyone who has said “See! Your body just needed you to relax” I have told them that I was actually REALLY stressed out trying to get myself ready to do daily injections into my stomach. It usually makes them stumble on their words a little bit, and will hopefully educate them the next time they want to say that to someone I’ve also been keeping this community in my thoughts when I tell certain friends, or think about a baby shower... but what I have learned is that this baby is something to be celebrated, and while I’m looking out for other’s feelings, I shouldn’t let that take away from being happy for myself. It’s a learning curve, but as this board says, once an infert, always an infert.
