Hello hello! After a bit of a hiatus from social media, we're back y'all with a quick clip of some line work done with @hybrideducation . Here you can see an example of how to use a little tension as well as your fingers to help control your line. As I comb each section, I'm using the back of my fingers to brace the hair against the skin. The main reason for doing so is to eliminate the expansion and elevation of the hair to achieve a true zero degree line under the occipital bone and mastoid process (two areas of the skull that protrude and tend to create lift or float of the hair). A forward head position is critical when applying this technique so make sure your line angle is what you're hoping to achieve as you begin. After the areas under the mastoid and the occipital are done, I go back and check the line with zero tension. Hit me up with any questions! Cut with @mizutaniamerica .

Here's a little clip of some refinement from today's shape on @ren.thepixie . After building a round graduated shape technically in my fingers, I go back through the wet shape using horizontal "sections" to elevate the hair with the comb. Think #crosschecking but with no tension and lower elevation to match the building of weight. You can see the expanded form of the shape as I move up the back of the head. After a blowdry, I move through with a more traditional #scissorovercomb technique but elevating from the root to see the shape in it's expanded for, not to recut but to check off any peaks of unwanted weight or length as shown in the last bit of the clip. I taught Sofia how to graduate hair yesterday. ❤️ Graduation is shorter on the bottom and longer on top. Because “short hair pushes long hair”, it creates volume. ⠀ I started on the bottom because that’s where I wanted it to be the shortest. I planned for each section to travel down towards it, making each new section longer. ⠀ You’ll notice that each section after my first one consists of: a guide from the previous section + the new section. Each time, I make the new section travel more than the guide. That resulted in each new section being longer than the previous section. ⠀ Towards the top, you’ll notice that I wanted my new section to be even longer. So I elevated it even lower to make it travel even farther and get longer. ⠀ I memorized every step of this haircut back in the day but I didn’t understand it. I was so overwhelmed and afraid cutting hair. I relied on memorizing haircuts, angles, terms ..I even memorized theory. I had so much self doubt. I didn’t even take time to look at the hair to see what was actually happening to figure it out and learn from it. I looked up to other people too much and didn’t realize I was belittling myself. I felt like only they could create haircuts and my role was to buy their dvd, watch their demo, subscribe. ⠀ If that’s you today, I just want you to know that isn’t true. You are way smarter than you think you are. You are getting in your own way. I hope this video helps you realize that. Today, as you cut hair, pay attention to each section, the same way I broke mine down. What is ended up being long and short? What did you do to make that happen? ⠀ You got this! Here's how I did this pixie. ❤️❤️❤️ _____________________ 1. I sectioned her top out of the way. 2. On the side of her head, I took a vertical section, pulled the hair straight out of the head and cut a line perpendicular to the floor. This removed bulk. 3. I worked my towards the back, taking the same sections, overdirecting each new section to the previous one to use it as a guide. I kept doing this until I reached the back of her ear. This will caused the hair to be shorter in the front and longer in the back. 4. When I reached the back of the ear, I started tapering to make it tighter on the nape area. I did this by angling my finger. 5. I released the top. I cut it shorter in the back and longer in the front. This allows her to easily style texture into her hair with a product like texture powder. The length in the front will push towards her face working like a fringe ...and drawing more attention to her beautiful eyes. _____________________ Hope you find the how's and the why's of this helpful or that it inspires you to try it or create something different. I overdirected the hair to the right. The hair on the left traveled far and the hair on the right didn’t travel as far. This caused the fringe to be longer on the left and shorter on the right. ⁣ ⁣ I used to get so nervous cutting hair. I’d get so overwhelmed trying to remember tutorials, demos and tips. ⁣ ⁣ Now, I just figure out how I want the hair to look. Where should it be long? Where should it be short? I make the long hair travel far and I make the short hair not travel as far. Sometimes, I’ll even angle my finger to help make the long hair longer and/or make the short hair shorter. ⁣ ⁣ I really hope you found this helpful because I truly believe in your passion, your gift, and in your dreams.
