Gastropoda merupakan salah satu kelas dari Filum Mollusca yang termasuk kedalam hewan invertebrata. Gastropoda merupakan hewan bercangkang yang berjalan dengan perut, (gaster: perut, podos: kaki) maka dari itu hewan ini memiliki alat gerak mengunakan perut sebagai kakinya. Pada umumnya Gastropoda memiliki cangkang yang sudah terbentuk sejak embrio, namun ada beberapa jenis gastropoda yang tidak memiliki cangkang sehingga disebut siput telanjang. Gastropoda menggunakan radula (lidah parut) untuk memakan alga atau tumbuhan. Akan tetapi, beberapa kelompok merupakan pemangsa, dan radulanya termodifikasi untuk mengebor cangkang moluska lain atau untuk mencabik–cabik. Curious fact: Thousands of eggs can be produced at a time by one female. It isn’t known how the eggs develop inside of the body of the squid. What we do know is that the size of the eggs depends on the species, but they are all quite small in size. For some species the number can be up to 70,000! However, many of them are eaten by predators so there is never an overpopulation of squid out there in the waters. Most of these eggs never end up becoming offspring. .
