Core FINISHER Circuit . My favorite way to finish a good workout is with a good old fashioned core circuit which involves 5 exercises that challenge the core in different ways & only uses 1 piece of equipment. ↪️The bosu is used here to be able to gain further range of motion which means it burns-A LOT. Just ask @jordynjanelle . If you don’t have one, that’s fine too & these can be completed without the bosu ball & will still work well! . . Exercise 1️⃣: Side Crunches Exercise 2️⃣: Opposite Knee to Elbow Crunch Exercise 3️⃣: Bicycles Exercise 4️⃣: Tuck ups Exercise 5️⃣: Full Sit-Ups . 50 reps of each exercise. BODY CONTROL AND STABILITY . ⚡️Here’s a nice one on the classic “bird dog.” ✔️. In these I incorporate self-dynamic movements to create more of a stability challenge and some resistance to to the mix. . Starting off with resisted bird dog. This was a lot more challenging than I anticipated, but when I tried it it was super hard to keep stiff/maintain control over my body. Keeping stiffness in my core and awareness of movement at my low back was key with this one. . ⚡️Next up: bird dog with UE and LE self perturbations. Moving the extremity in the extended position of the movement + maintaining stability could be quite a challenge. But again, like with everything, depends on the intensity/effort of how its done. . Here we are focusing on the main function of the peroneal muscles in walking. The activation of the peroneals In walking IS GREATEST DURING SINGLE LIMB SUPPORT IN MIDSTANCE PHASE....ie. BALANCE!!! They are responsible for: 1️⃣ Mediolateral stability (frontal plane) 2️⃣ Preventing ankle inversion at heel strike ✔️ I can just see all my chronic ankle sprain patients faces now..... DM us before you go to town here. Progression is important. Ankle and Knee CARS, calf raises, single leg calf raises (see previous post) all are good mobility and strength training exercises to take away some of that fear factor . 1️⃣ Medial incline ramp. Evertor oriented strength training. You gotta work a little harder to keep that big toe down 2️⃣ Balance. Keep that big toe down. Meniscus Rehab: Phase 1 — — ❓First off, what is the meniscus? Well, the meniscus is a fibrocartilage that acts like a shock absorber for the knee and also assists in movement (gliding) of the knee joint. We have 2 of them on each knee - a medial and a lateral meniscus. — Many people tear their meniscus over the course of their life, and many people do NOT need surgical intervention. It all comes down to what your symptoms look like, how much pain you are in and if you get repetitive locking and catching which limits you during daily and recreational activities/sports. — My patient @feefiefofeather is a Highland Games Athlete, a Strongman Athlete & she, unfortunately had a lateral meniscal tear of her left knee which caused A LOT of catching…to the point that she was unable to do much exercise at all. She tried Physical Therapy first but ultimately decided to opt for the surgery…sometimes surgery IS necessary. — — Now , she is 1 week out of surgery, her torn meniscus was not repaired, the torn part was removed and the knee was derided (cleaned up). — — Our main goals right now: 1️⃣Get the knee moving, ultimately getting full extension back is first priority (for normal walking) then working knee flexion. I like doing some passive ROM exercises at first but quickly work into active ROM exercises as soon as I’m able because these are more functional and translate better to movement (plus they build confidence, work balance and get people moving!) 2️⃣Slowly rebuilding her strength- this includes all muscles surrounding the hip and knee and ankle, it’s all connected and it all matters. 3️⃣Rebuilding confidence with movement. Beginning with double leg exercises then progressing to single leg exercises as she gets stronger and is able. — Here is an example of what that 2nd session of rehab looks like: (the first was mostly table based ROM, leg raises, quad sets, etc.) 1️⃣Walking knee bend / kick outs 2️⃣Walking butt kicks 3️⃣Walking hamstring kicks 4️⃣High toe walks 5️⃣SB Triple Threat Series (straight leg glute bridge, hamstring curls, bent knee glute bridge) 6️⃣Leg press (double leg) 7️⃣Squat to bench — — Like, comment, save & tag a friend⬇️
