• movement is like creative writing in the body •
Creativity has always been the thing that gives me both excitement and purpose. I believe it is a form of expression, and also a way to give to others and share with the world. It is the work of the heart, and the work for the vulnerable. Putting work out there for others to judge is not an easy task, but it’s one that is crucial to my existence, without question. Humans are meant to create - we build houses and families and businesses. We have hands meant for building and shaping, and eyes meant for seeing and enjoying. My creative journey has included writing, music, photography and more. Yet - the most creative I’ve ever felt is in my yoga practice, both as a student and as a teacher. I wear a gold band on my wrist that says ‘Aim Saraswatyai Swaha’ which is the chant and salutations to the Goddess of Creativity in Sanskrit. Every day I honor the creative process in my personal and professional work, and it keeps me feeling alive more than anything else. I encourage you to notice all the ways in a day that you ‘create,’ even if you don’t consider yourself an ‘artist’ - spoiler alert: you are.
Summertime seems to be such a fast whirlwind. Between trying to soak in the sweetness of the Montana outdoors, teaching a whole bunch of yoga, and photographing daily for myself and for clients - my hands are FULL in the best ways. Yesterday I paused for the first time in a bit - I got to meditate to the sound of fireworks and appreciate how full life is. There’s so much to explore. I’ve lived in the same tiny town my whole life and am still hiking trails I’ve never been on, seeing new growth in the community and saying bye to friends who are off to new places. Cheers to all of it - how lucky we all are to be on the journey
Sharing with you some key components of developing all round hip mobility and control in end ranges, here are my Top 4 mobility drills using @mirafitofficial sliders:
1: Front Split Slide: Go slow and keep tight in the hips and legs or you may go to far and not be able to pull it back!
2: Cobra to Pike: Brilliant for developing control and strength for the transition between maximally flexed and extended hips
3: Mountain Climbers: Simple yes, but very useful for developing hip flexion patterns which require lifting the knees, such as sprinting or jumping
4: Long Reverse Lunge: A great lengthener and mobiliser of the hip flexor to allow better hip extension and encourage glute activation. Highly recommended for sufferers of lower back pain and for people training back bends of any sort.
Sliders are an underrated tool - they allow movements to isolate specific joints without having to compensate or move other parts of the body, thus focusing more effort and gains into the isolated articulated joint chosen for the load/force.

Wether it’s being stuck in a car all day or at the desk it’s all the same.
-
Sometimes you just got to get it out of your system, you know when you’re feeling fidgety or frustrated and you can’t stop tapping your feet, that’s your cue to move, your body is screaming at you.

I used to believe that religion and money are the cause of all evil. I used to believe Marxist theory. That inequality is unfair. That Vegetarianism is the only conscious way to eat. That humans are a plague on this planet. Over time I began to realise that all beliefs are limiting. They only represent one point of view. I stopped giving beliefs the power to limit the way I see this world. I stopped wanting others to believe what I believe. Beliefs can motivate the work you do here. The trap is when one begins to think that their work is to be a belief virus, converting all to their belief system. In the Aghori traditions, the path is to identify any strong belief system one holds and practice destroying it. To dispel ignorance one must be prepared to go against all that they think is correct or right. Until there comes a point that you do something not because it is right, but because it fulfills you.

Going forward means that you thrive for change, energy well spent, prayers answered, goals achieved and rewarded efforts. Going forward also means taking one step towards the future without necessarily knowing what will come but trusting that the arch of our foot will be strong enough to support us in our walk. It means not having all the answers to our questions or having all the tools needed to feel confident but continuing on the path we’re on knowing that there’s more to it than just a straight line. There will be twists and turns and maybe a few stops but in the end the road will always lead you to the front. Going forward is a way to survive and thrive. I’m choosing to have faith and to believe that by doing a few small steps everyday I’ll get closer and closer to my dreams. We’re already more than 6 months into this year.. what are your dreams and what will you do to achieve them? ✨⭐️☀️
