Your strongest memory of Apollo 11? "Looking back at Earth from a great distance." — Apollo 11 astronaut Michael Collins.
Collins, the command module pilot, remained aboard the spacecraft in orbit around the Moon, while Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin descended in the lunar module "Eagle" to the surface on July 20, 1969.
This historic Apollo 11 image was taken by the astronauts from lunar orbit. It's featured in the @ngadc "A Century of Lunar Photographs" exhibit, part of celebrations nationwide this week in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Moon landing.

Congratulations to our Museum Assistants - it’s their last day at the Gallery! Tatyiana, Lapreia, and Isis spent their summers working on a variety of projects across the institution. They gave public talks, assisted visitors with information and audio guides, helped run family programs, and learned from staff across the Gallery. Thanks to the Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program for making their summer jobs possible! #mbsyep #myngadc #washingtondc
This week, Kaywin Feldman’s name was set in stone in the West Building as the fifth Director of the National Gallery of Art. Feldman’s name was carved by Christine Dunn, with final tinting completed by Nick Benson. Benson’s family business, The John Stevens Shop, has been in operation since 1705 and has inscribed many of the Gallery’s panels. ⚒ #myngadc #stonecarving by Tricia Zigmund, Gallery photographer

There are over forty works on view in Alexander Calder: A Survey at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. (@ngadc), many of which are on loan from the Calder Foundation. Situated in Tower 2 of the museum’s iconic I.M. Pei-designed East Building, it is the largest long-term gallery dedicated to the artist in the world. Should you visit, keep an eye out for Calder’s La Touraine, a hanging sculpture fashioned from tin cans and wire, which is a new addition to the presentation.
