So #NATE2017 is over... I felt really sad that we had to go. You know, like in a summer camp, when you get to know so many nice people, you spend a lot of quality time talking and having fun, but then , all of a sudden, you all have to go. I want to thank everybody who put so much effort in organizing this event. All #englishteachers in the world need it. For me personally, it was a fantastic experience! Looking forward to #NATE2018

Greetings to all! In case you missed me, I'm here. Alive. Getting ready for #LSA3 for my #Delta #module2. Speaking ... discussions...teenagers. What else can you dream of? Oh, I know! Soon after that I'm going to ...#Nate2018 #Nate-Samara !!! I've received the confirmation of my workshop!!! Guess what I am going to talk about? Exams! To be more exact, letters in Russian State exams... . So why am I going to #NATE2018? Easy! I really loved it last year in Moscow! See the first photo. That was my workshop on Authentic assessment and Exams. And this year I simply can't miss the most outstanding event for true fans of #ELT. Have you seen the program? Lots and lots of speakers! Tons of inspiration, loads of positive emotions and great networking! And a chance to see colleagues who I know from online. Awesome, right? Are YOU going to NATE? You have to feel the good vibes of ELT

#NATE2018 Day 1 Really loved the talk given by Carolyn Westbrook on activating students’ cognitive skills. Especially the part about developing students’ decoding skills, which is so near and dear to me. Speaking of which, join me tomorrow at SIG 5 devoted to teaching language skills from 15:00-17:20. I’ll be extremely short of time, but will try to give as many useful tips as possible on using technology to effectively teach connected speech. #Context #ContextLanguageCentre #Контекст

Hi all! I'm back home from #NATE2018. It was a great conference. Firstly, the organization was just high class! The speakers were unbelievably outstanding!! Those who I listened to really inspired me and filled me with heaps of new ideas!! So let me share some of the highlights. First of all, Karen Ottewell, Cambridge Professor (photo 2) Both of her talks were about about academic writing but the ideas can be used even in basic exam writing. 1️⃣ All texts should be organized according to the Greek Triad: ethos-logos-pathos (see the photo). In other words, when writing bear in mind your reader and his possible beliefs, think about how eloquent your style is don't forget about the structure, arguments + reasons 2️⃣ The rule of three continues further when it comes to the organization of the text. Inductive-abductive-deductive Your introduction narrows down the subject of your text -- the main body tells the facts -- conclusion gives a broad view. Roughly speaking, conclusion in a way reflects the introduction. ⛓️And the whole text should be like a chain. A tight chain of arguments which can't be broken even with a knife. 3️⃣ Cultural aspect is very important in the analysis of writing. For example, the Russian language is reader-responsible. That means whatever you get from the text depends on you. The reader has to read between lines and guess what the write the wanted to say. On contrary, English is writer-responsible. A writer has to be very precise and careful. It's like you take your reader by the hand and take him/her on a journey through your text. Wonderful, huh? 4️⃣ In order to make this journey nice and comfortable your text must be like a flow going logically from new facts to old. Those theme and rheme! This is not just a whim of our Linguistics teacher told us, this is what makes reading the text significantly easy! I think, this could work with state exam writing #ЕГЭанглийский . Can't wait to share these ideas with my students. They're easy, but quite memorable... ❓Do you like writing in English? What advice to you give your students to improve their writing?
