This #american #icon is of global significance - the third largest barrier reef in the #world! WOOD FANS! lend me your ears! If any of you like the ancient Bog Oak that I regularly use on my builds this may interest you! My dear friends Hamish and Nicola over at @adamsonandlow have been excavating and supplying Bog Oak for around 30 years. They are the worlds leading excavators, suppliers and experts of the incredibly rare specie of timber and absolutely no one comes close to their experience, knowledge and quality of material. Recently, they excavated a COLOSSAL log that was 45 feet long(!) and immaculately preserved. Normally, Hamish would crosscut this and just plank it like normal, but something stopped him from grabbing the chainsaw this time. The log was too good. Roll forward a few years of conditioning and drying the planks, and now, they and their team are embarking upon a project to turn the full length planks from this log into a VAST banquet table which (it is hoped) is to be displayed in Ely Cathedral, right next door to where the log was excavated. Anyone who knows about timber or woodworking will tell you that a project of that scale is absolutely insane, and they'd be right. Even finding a wood Mill long enough to cut planks that length involved shipping the machine from Canada. Nuts. The project to fabricate the table now starts in London (at the @buildingcraftscollege ) on July 22nd and they are documenting the whole process through their @fenlandblackoakproject account. Anyone who knows just how rare and valuable Bog Oak is knows that it is nothing short of a national treasure. This table will be no different. They are officially registered as a charity and will not be profiting from this endeavour, it is purely driven by the want to allow this incredibly rare tree to be appreciated by generations to come.
