EIGRP Setup and Configuration 1. Setting up a simple EIGRP configuration with two routers is quick and easy using the default configuration settings. We use matching Autonomous System Number (ASN) of 1 on both routers. The network command on Router 1 uses a subnet /24 match with the wildcard mask of 0.0.0.255 and the exact ip match with wildcard match of 0.0.0.0. On Router 2 we use a more generic wildcard mask to cover the subnets off both interfaces. Notice how the neighbor relationship between the two routers starts right up on FastEthernet 0/0. 2. The next few slides break down the show commands for EIGRP. Here we can see the ASN as 1 and which interface the neighbor router is connected among other detailed information. 3. SHOW IP EIGRP NEIGHBORS lists the neighbor's ip address connected interface and the uptime. Note this command does show the Router-ID. The SHOW IP ROUTE command shows the connected routes listed with a "C" and the EIGRP routes listed with a "D". Because EIGRP was created by Cisco, you can think they were trying to act like "D" is almost as good as a connected route. Cisco has since opened up the EIGRP protocol for non-cisco devices, but this memorization technique still holds valid! 4. The SHOW IP PROTOCOLS works for OSPF and others, but for EIGRP we can see it lists a bunch of EIGRP's default values such as Variance, ASN, Auto-summarization, Max Paths, hold timer, subnet's being routed, Administrative distance for both Internal EIGRP (=90) and External (=170). The command, MAXIMUM-PATHS {#} ; allows EIGRP to add this number of paths to a subnet. The VARIANCE {#} command multiplies the variance by the Feasible Distance (FD) to allow additional routes to be added to the routing table if MAXIMUM-PATHS allows it and Reported Distance is less than the FD. 5. SHOW IP EIGRP TOPOLOGY shows us the Router-ID (red arrow ) as well as the subnets FD, metric and hop/connected interface. Note the Router-ID was set automatically to the highest IP address on the router. SHOW IP EIGRP INTERFACES lists the interfaces on a router and number of peers on each interface.
