This is the size of an adult beaver - can you guess the weight? @hunting_peter is not a small guy, and you guessed it, this is a big animal. A lot of people have asked why beavers are hunted in Scandinavia. A simple answer is; you don’t have to. Some people eat them, but the reason I hunt them is due to the damage they cause on the farmers land. When they build dams, the flooding alters the local environment in a big way and they are only beaten by humans as the creature that makes the biggest change on their local environment. The flooded areas create new habitats for birds and can increase the build up of insects as a result. However when the flooding impacts farmland it can be a problem - and that’s the reason we hunt them. We are not interested in getting rid of them, they have been extinct in Sweden before, but population management is crucial to keep their impact at a manageable level. The history of beavers in Scandinavia is a true feat of conservation, and should not be overlooked.
