Posting a photo from the day I arrived, because today, the day I leave, isn’t as joyful. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I moved away right after my 19th birthday. I was angry. I was hurt. I was desperate. And so I ran away at my first opportunity without much thought at all. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This February will signify 10 years in Vancouver for me. And at this time in my life, the huge amount of healing and work on myself that I’ve done means that I am now at peace with myself. I have balance. Something I always craved. But because of this self-work and place of calmness, it also often causes me to reflect on the day I left. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The opportunities I’ve had on the west coast and the relationships I’ve built there would have never happened in Nova Scotia. In fact, I used to always say “my dreams don’t live in Nova Scotia”. And this was true. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But what good are dreams if you always leave the biggest part of your heart behind? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ People always ask me if I’ll ever move back to Nova Scotia. And my answer hasn’t changed in 10 years, “I don’t know”. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And I still don’t. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ All I know if that my father is the most important person in the world to me. And it kills me every single day to be so far away. And that’s as far as I get with it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Leaving 10 years of insanely hard work isn’t easy. But staying isn’t either. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ❤️ Thank you for letting me share this slice of my heart with you. It’s a slice that weighs a lot.
