Resistance flexibility - a revolution! It blows my mind how many very good strength coaches out there still think flexibility can’t be achieved past age 10-12, that it reduces or takes away our athleticism and that you have to spend exorbitant amounts of time to obtain it! “Knees over toes is bad for you...” “Never round your back under load...” “Only kids can develop flexibility... it’s too late for me...” “Weightlifting makes your tight...” These are just some of the beliefs held by some of the best trainers in the world. THORACIC MOBILITY - WHY YOU NEED IT ❓ . . ‍♂️ One of the most common issues that people have is the lack of thoracic mobility. As we all know the thoracic spine is the most mobile aspects of your spine, especially when it comes to rotation. And rotational movements are essential for spinal health. If your thoracic spine is not moving very well, this means that your lumbar spine and SIJs will try and take over from it and eventually lose their stability properties, becoming more prone to injury and tightness. . . ✅ WHY IS THORACIC MOBILITY NEGLECTED ❓ Because people focus on making sure that their hips and shoulder are able to move in different ranges, however for some reason they do not consider the T-spine an important mobiliser. If you want a good, pain-free posture, then you need to start incorporating these exercises into your routine. . . ➡️ In the video you will see two exercises which I perform for T-spine mobility. The first one focuses on mobilising the superior portion of my spine, by locking my hips to the pad and creating movement in the higher regions of the thoracic vertebrae. trying to minimise movement from the lumbar spine and hips. If you have pain between your shoulder blades, this will be a great exercise for you. . . ➡️ The second exercise allows your hips and lumbar spine to get involved in the exercise by locking the arms into a position that stops the superior thoracic vertebrae from moving too much. The focus here will mainly be on the junction between the T12 and L1 joints and of course opening up the lumbar vertebrae laterally, decompressing the nerve roots. . . This is good for people who struggle with lower back pain, upper back pain, pain between the shoulder blades, neck pain, tightness in the hips, pelvic tightness and overall lack of thoracic mobility. . . So Proud of my lovely client and friend @bdangerface! ・・・ 22/05/2019 14 days hiking 17 days on the trail 150 km covered 4146m gained in elevation 4 walls hit 100 emotional breakthroughs 2 genius business ideas Immeasurable amounts of Dal Baht 1 HAPE diagnosis 1 point proven • Approximately 18 months after learning to walk again, I finally made it to Everest Base Camp. Breaking my pelvis was painful, miserable and destroyed my self-confidence. Sitting on the sofa watching yet another B-movie on Netflix, I set myself a goal to climb to EBC, to prove to myself that I am just as capable as I was before the accident. Thanks to an epic medical and physio team at St. George's, London and the dedicated, patient and committed support of Miles @therapybod , I managed to complete the most challenging physical feat of my life with little to no pain (at least not injury-related pain ), seeing EBC and summitting my highest peak to date - Kala Patthar (5643m). • I'm so grateful to everyone who has encouraged and supported me in the last year and to all of you following me on this epic journey! It has genuinely been one of the hardest physical challenges of my life and has totally restored my faith in my own body. • A huge, huge thank you to you all! LOOK TO THE SHOULDER FOR NECK PAIN . we’re going to look at ways to strengthen and increase some of the activity of the muscles around the shoulder to help reduce that neck pain. . These drills focus on increasing the strength of muscles like the serratus anterior, middle/lower traps and rotator cuff to get our arms overhead. . Weakness, decreased activity, inhibited (whatever word you want to plug in here) of these muscles can lead to a reliance on the neck to accomplish that same task. . More work for the neck when your neck didn’t ask for that job, means an angry employee. . ‍♂️ Use these as part of your warm up before a shoulder or chest day, or even as part of a rehab program to alleviate some of that nagging neck discomfort. .
