H.O.R.T.U.S. XL Astaxanthin.g is a large scale, high-resolution 3D printed bio-sculpture receptive to both human and non-human life. It is conceived by ecoLogicStudio founders Claudia Pasquero and Marco Polettoand developed in collaboration with the Synthetic Landscape Lab at the University of Innsbruck for the exhibition, titled “La Fabrique du vivant” [The Fabric of the Living] in Center Pompidou, Paris. In ‘H.O.R.T.U.S. XL astaxanthin.g’ by ecoLogicStudio a digital algorithm simulates the growth of a substratum inspired by coral morphology. this is physically deposited by 3D printing machines in layers of 400 microns, supported by triangular units of 46 mm and divided into hexagonal blocks of 18.5 cm. photosynthetic cyanobacteria are inoculated on a biogel medium into the individual triangular cells, or bio-pixel, forming the units of biological intelligence of the system. their metabolisms, powered by photosynthesis, convert radiation into actual oxygen and biomass. China Pavilion by Tsinghua University + Studio Link-Arc at Milan Expo 2015. A unitization algorithm has been used to optimize the roof cladding. Roof design by Satoru Sugihara. Rejecting the typical notion of a cultural pavilion as an object in a plaza, the China Pavilion is instead conceived as a field of spaces. Envisioned as a cloud hovering over a “land of hope”, the Pavilion is experienced as a series of public programs located beneath a floating roof, the unique design of which creates an iconic image for the project and a unique presence within the Expo grounds. The Triple Helix is a kinetic installation by @ruebenmargolin - 2013 The installation has 1027 hexagonal wood blocks, a welded steel frame, three aluminum helices and a polycarbonate matrix with 9280 pulleys. The sheer number of parts combined with a high level of precision almost got the better of me, but served to dramatically increase both the fluidity and variability. The combined amplitude is greater than the diameter, resulting in a continuous wavescape of steep contours and smooth curves. The forms are mathematically complex, full of unexpected saddles and peaks. At the same time its sensuousness reminds me of traditional figure drawing: I keep wanting to get a pad of paper and spend time studying each pose it takes. With three 40 Watt electric motors, the Triple Helix is almost completely silent and contains nothing digital. Decisions about lighting, whether it should be on legs or fully suspended, and even the ideal height for it, are best determined with its final home in mind. Awesome shot from the parametric ceiling of University of Leipzig designed by Erick van Egeraat in #Leipzig #Germany 2017 the auditorium space features two integrated organs and the world’s highest transparent sliding doors. These doors with a height of 15,5 meter, divide the church space in two: the secular auditorium for a variety of events and the more contemplative space the so-called ‘Andachtsraum’. In this part of the building the Epitaphs, which were salvaged from the ruins of the demolished church are displayed properly restored. The impressive vaults with the glass columns – of which several column pairs do not continue to the floor to increase the functionality – ensure that space, regardless of the glass sliding doors, can be experienced as a united whole. With the opening of the last part of the project – the Paulinum and ‘Andachtsraum’, the new Leipzig University located at the Augustusplatz in Leipzig, regains her dignified identity and rightfully reclaims her significance for the Leipzig, Germany and the world.
