Yesterday I made a lot of progress on the first of my two Claire projects from Outlander ! This is "blue Claire", or "wool waulking Claire", although the same bodice is worn with different skirts and stomachers at different points of the first season. I started with an XVIIIth century pattern from Janet Arnold's Patterns of Fashion vol. 1 and altered it quiiiiite a bit to match the bodice from the show ^^ I will make a post comparing the original pattern with my finished altered version ! This photo was taken on the wrong dress form, without stays AND with the wrong underpinning since I could not find my bumroll last night, so it is only an approximation of the final shape, but I am very pleased with the pleats ! Progress is underway for Patterns of Fashion 6! @bernadettebanner here: I’ve been hard at work recreating the fabric design for this c. 1730s caraco. As the jacket is fitted and contains lots of piecings, it’s been a bit of a challenge to trace off and puzzle together an entire repeat of the design, but I think we’ve finally managed it. Jenny and I then chose colours to match those apparent in the back pleats and under the pocket flaps, where they are least affected by dirt and fading, and I began adding colour to the drawing with fine horizontal pen strokes to mimic the weave pattern of the fabric.
