I highly recommend it! (swipe for more pics!) Not only do you get to see the beautiful architecture and amazing Samuel McIntire woodwork up close, but you also learn the history of the mansion, including whether or not a murder that was committed here back in 1830 served as the basis for the game ‘Clue’. . #professorplumdidit #butprobablynotatthishouse

So excited to share with you this lovely celadon evening gown with matching shoes, by renowned couturier #charlesfrederickworth. The ensemble was worn by Mrs. Joseph Chamberlain at Queen Victoria's drawing room, Buckingham Palace, March 9, 1893 as well as at the wedding of the Duke of York and Princess Mary, July 6, 1893. (The dress was constructed with weighted silk, so sadly, there is some splitting, but the detailing remains in great shape! Also, please note- the Sargent painting of Mrs. Chamberlain painted around the same time, is not of her in this exact dress, but one very similar.) - John Singer Sargent; American, 1856 - 1925 Mary Crowninshield Endicott Chamberlain (Mrs. Joseph Chamberlain) 1902. Mary was born in Salem, MA. the daughter of William C. Endicott, Sr. and Ellen P. Endicott. Mary's father was Secretary of War in President Grover Cleveland's administration. She married Joseph Chamberlain, the famous Birmingham politician in Washington DC on Nov. 26, 1888 and moved to England. As Chamberlain's 3rd wife, she accompanied him on numerous state visits and served as stepmother to his children. After Chamberlain's death in 1914, she married William Hartley Carnegie, Dean of Westminster Abbey and Chaplain to the House of Commons. The Crowninshield-Bentley House (c.1727) appears to be enjoying a peaceful evening, but don’t be fooled. It is absolutely surrounded by the chaos that is Halloween season in Salem. Although built for a ship captain, this house is not as ornate as some in Salem, but its simplicity and perfect proportions make it one of my favorites. #historicsalem #halloweeninsalem #salem #igerssalem
