In the evening, while scouting with my PhotoPills app, I thought this spot would be a nice location to take a few starry pictures. The large boulders stood out from the rest of the landscape near the ocean. Once it got dark, we could see the glow from Mahon in the distance but that didn't stop us from enjoying the night sky view. I managed to grab several frames to stack while giving a helping hand to a few new nightscape photographers around me. Hope you like it ⁠ EXIF: Canon 6d, iso 6400, Sigma 50mm, f1.4. Hood Wilderness, when cloudless skies were forecast for the night. How lucky to have a late morning moonrise and cloudless skies in the Northwest!? We watched the milky way slowly drift over Mt Hood, Venus shining brightly next to it. There’s nothing quite like a galaxy and a mountain to make one appreciate the grandiosity of nature. Humbling and awe inspiring at the same time. The strange thing is that with how loud the river was, we were totally in the dark both with our eyes and ears, hearing things that weren't there, seeing movement that didn't exist! I'm back from Oregon and finally editing some night shots ⁠ When I went to Rowena Crest Viewpoint to photograph the beautiful horseshoe shaped road there wasn't that many cars going by. So I set up my intervalometer, asked my girl and a fellow photographer to watch my camera as I hopped in the my rental and drove up & down the road a few times. When I was done a few other cars had finally driven by as well. I am very inspired by the talent in this group and I love how much I'm learning! My friend and I drove up Old Fall River Road in Rocky Mountain National Park last Monday after dark. It was a calm, clear night. As we were standing in the dark along the pond near the top below the visitor center, we started hearing water splashing. It was a total WTF was that moment. lol My friend shined her flashlight to the right of us and there were a half dozen Bull Elk within 20-30 yards of us! We couldn't see them when we walked down to the water's edge. After that we saw a Porcupine, and later a Fox with a Snowshoe Hare in his mouth running along Trail Ridge Road. Gotta love RMNP after dark! The critters of the night were pretty active. We arrived at Lake Irene just in time for the Milky Way to line up at the south end of the lake around 12:45 AM. There were three other women photographers there when we arrived. It was very nice to see all lady photographers out that night! I light painted with my headlamp but the foreground was too bright. I fixed that in PS CC. This is a single exposure, but I would really like to learn how to stack for less noise/graininess.
