What’s in your kitchen⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Wax wraps were the very first plastic free swap I ever made.. I still have a roll of unused cling film in my draw, untouched from that day over the year and a half ago.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I found the kitchen an easy place to start my plastic free journey. From washing up to food storage there are lots of swaps I found easy and manageable:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ WASHING UP Replace plastic scrubbing brushes, plastic sponges and disposable j-clothes with wooden scrubbing brushes, reusable clothes, and sponges that you wash and use again and again.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ LEFTOVERS Swap cling film for wax wraps, or simply put a plate over the top for keeping leftovers in the fridge.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ FOOD Choose food in glass jar and bottles and tins over plastic, choose lose veg over plastic wrapped, buy in bulk rather than individually wrapped, find a zero waste store to buy loose pasta, rice etc and store in glass jars. Take cotton produce bags to the shops to avoid those annoying little plastic bags. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ CLEANING Replace all the million cleaning products under your kitchen sink by making your own and storing in a glass bottle and use with a reusable cotton cloth. Baking soda and vinegar are the foundation for most of my homemade cleaning sprays, I’ll do a post with recipes on these soon.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ PACKED LUNCH Swap single use sandwich bags for reusable clothes bags, wax wraps or a metal lunch box. The dream team ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Vinegar and baking soda. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So simple, yet so effective. I use this to clean so many things like tiles, sinks, toilets, the bathtub, shower, and basically anything but marble and granite. No toxins, no mysterious chemicals, just simple natural ingredients. They are also both extremely affordable, so that makes me love it even more.
