Nesse video temos a primeira divisão celular de um embrião de Ctenóforos, e é altamente assimétrica. _ Ctenóforos são invertebrados marinhos gelatinosos que divergiram do resto dos animais. Conhecido pelo nome água viva de pente, são animais bioluminescentes. _ Esta posição filogenética, a disponibilidade de seqüências do genoma nuclear e mitocondrial e a facilidade com que os embriões podem ser coletados e observados fizeram do Ctenóforo um sistema modelo para estudar a evolução e o desenvolvimento animal. _ No evento da Divisão Celular a citocinese é o processo pelo qual o citoplasma é clivado em dois. Normalmente começa na anáfase, e só é finalizada quando os dois núcleos-filho sejam formados. _ O primeiro sinal visível da citocinese nas células animais é o enrugamento e a formação de um sulco na membrana plasmática que ocorre durante a anáfase. _ Quando o fuso mitótico está em uma posição central na célula (a situação mais comum da maioria das células em divisão), as duas células-filha produzidas serão de igual tamanho. _ Durante o desenvolvimento embrionário, entretanto, há algumas situações nas quais o fuso mitótico se posiciona assimetricamente e, consequentemente, o sulco cria duas células que diferem em tamanho. Na maioria dos casos, as células resultantes também deferem nas moléculas que herdam e, normalmente, se desenvolvem em diferentes tipos celulares. _ Mecanismos especiais são necessários para posicionar o fuso mitótico excentricamente em tais divisões assimétricas.
