ONE YEAR AGO - 7/31/2018. . I got to hold all three babies for the first time! If you can’t tell, my eyes were watering with absolute joy. They were only a week old but with the help of several nurses and respiratory therapists, this was possible! We also took our first family picture this night. It’s hard to believe this was only a year ago. Although the last year feels like it flew, the NICU life feels like it was so long ago. It was an emotionally draining journey but we couldn’t be more grateful for the love and care they received at the most crucial time in their life. This picture was taken as we were getting ready to take the triplets for their first checkup with their pediatrician after being discharged from the NICU. It was our first time venturing out of the house with all three babies. I remember how stressful it was trying to get everyone out of the house on time that day. I can only imagine what the receptionist was thinking when we finally rushed in completely overwhelmed and 20 minutes late. Leaving the house has gotten easier over the last two years now that we have our routine down, but I’ve had to accept that we will probably never be on time for anything again! Tomorrow we take them back for their 2 year checkup. How has it been two years already?! Excuse me while I go cry now

Sometimes we whisper like we’re telling secrets . At the end of this video, you can see that Lily is speaking but not making any noise. Sometimes, depending on the position of her trach, she can’t get any air up to her vocal chords. As her lungs grow stronger it will be easier for her to push air and talk, but for now we’re working on managing the frustration that comes with inability to consistently communicate. Because I’m a mommy... and I can’t believe it’s happened but omg y’all. EVERY SINGLE THING THEY DO IS CUTE I used to not understand parents but now I get it! This pic has to be on my feed so I always remember their first ponytails, first “friend’s birthday party”, first time having whole string beans and Mac and cheese and the BILLIONTH time they made my heart skip beats. I’m in love y’all. Whew Lawd • If this seems like it would be obvious or a “given” for moms... just know that it’s NOT. Moms have different journeys to motherhood and through motherhood. My pregnancy was so high risk with so many SCARY potential outcomes that it was very hard to bond while they were inside of me because I was constantly in fear of losing one. Don’t get me wrong- I loved them, was excited and would dream of their future, but I was SCARED. I knew way too much being in this field of work! Then they came 8 weeks early, weighing 3ish pounds. They were in the NICU with tons of wires and I had to ask a nurse if I could hold them. I needed help taking them out of the incubator. I bonded with them A LOT while in the NICU but still, #NICU mamas will tell you- it’s a different beast not having full access to your baby. THEN we brought them home and were in survival mode. Keeping them (and ourselves) alive. Little babies are so cute but they don’t “do” much I bonded even more but there were THREE and since they didn’t yet have personalities - I merely loved them because they were my daughters and Ben and I made them. Oh but now Thanks be to God. I am head over heels in love with EACH of these girls individually. Their laughs, smiles, babbles, moves and their ways. They each have their OWN personality and they respond to my singing, dancing and funny faces differently! Their faces LIGHT UP when Ben and I walk into the room and they follow us with their eyes when we leave. I’ve loved these girls since the moment I found out I was pregnant with three... but wow. That love has blossomed and deepened past what I thought was possible. We are BONDED. Pierce Alan Jewett graduated a day earlier than expected, and it was the greatest celebration filled with the happiest of tears. We love the people working at North Central Baptist NICU like family. Our baby is alive and thriving because of this incredible team. So many special individuals couldn’t attend P’s graduation because they were caring for other precious babies, but they were there in spirit. We felt you all. We’ve been home almost 24 hours, after 109 NICU days, and it feels so right. ‼️NEW NAME! ‼️You’ve probably noticed but my Instagram handle has changed. There’s no reason except I didn’t like how my old name looked. (I tried to separate Jamie’s Journey a couple of different ways but they were all taken!) so I added my middle name! My baby girls are 4 MONTHS OLD! It’s hard to believe! I feel like the past 4 months have been a whirlwind! Born at 33 weeks, a two week NICU stay, coming home focusing on gaining weight and just trying our best to help our babies grow, grow, grow! SO MANY up and downs but now the FUN is starting! They are SMILING a lot, babbling, cooing, sitting up with assistance and burning through our life savings because they are eating so much in formula (TOTALLY KIDDING!!) but they are eating 7oz every 4 hours! They just got into size 2 diapers and are in 3 months clothing, which is starting to get a little small in some brands! This little monster is down for the count again. Her trach stoma is colonized with MSSA (methicillin-susceptible staphylococcus aureus) and is prone to flare ups during times of stress. She’s been popping teeth like a mad woman, which has allowed the MSSA to invade again. This is something that most trach kiddos experience- colonization of a super bug is very common and very annoying. She’s needing more oxygen, working harder to breathe, and relatively lethargic. We’re working hard to avoid hospitalization, so for the next several days you can find us in quarantine, glued to the couch, in our @dockatot throne, watching Netflix ✌ . In all seriousness, this weekend was supposed to be Lil’s birthday/thank you party for our NICU staff.
