Vegan energy balls, 2 ways by @vegamelon | chocolate & matcha — which team are you on? energy balls (yields 20-24) -1/2 cup (128g) nut butter -1/2 cup (110g) applesauce -1/2 cup (120mL) plant-based milk -1/4 cup (60mL) maple syrup -1-2 servings vegan protein powder -1 1/2 cups (120g) rolled oats -1/2 cup (40g) shredded coconut -4 tbsp cocoa powder OR 1 tbsp matcha powder In a large bowl, mix together the nut butter, applesauce, maple syrup, and plant-based milk. *If using protein, mix it in with another 1/4 to 1/2 cup of milk.* Add in oats, coconut, and cocoa/matcha powder. Once combined, cover and chill for 1 hour to firm up. When ready, scoop out about 1 tbsp of the mixture and roll into a ball. Repeat with remaining dough & enjoy! That is, we cannot make it from other sources, we MUST get protein in our diet otherwise we will die. ☠️⁣ ⁣ It is important for many functions in the body such as: the immune system, maintaining muscle and other lean tissues, enzyme function, hormone production and much much more. ⁣ ⁣ Research has shown that of all the macronutrients, protein is the most satiating. That is, it makes you feel full and satisfied after eating. This is one of the reasons it is recommended to increase protein intake when dieting. ⁣ ⁣ Protein is found in many of the foods we eat, but it is highest in meat, dairy, eggs, fish, whey protein (duh) and to a lesser extent, nuts, seeds, beans and pulses. ⁣ ⁣ If someone tries to tell you there is more protein in broccoli than steak, they are a gimp and a vegan zealot who knows fuck all about protein. ‍♂️⁣ ⁣ The current U.K recommended daily allowance of protein is 0.75g per kg of body weight. Many studies have shown however, that this figure is likely nowhere near enough, and we should actually be aiming more towards 1.2 to 1.6 grams per kg body weight per day for optimal health. If you are dieting, aim for the upper end of this. If you are looking to build muscle, aim even higher, in the range of 1.8 to 2.7 grams per kg. ⁣ ⁣ Protein WON’T damage your kidneys. ❌⁣ You CAN absorb more than 20 grams of protein in a meal. ✅⁣ ⁣ So there you go. PROTEIN ZOATS I was scrolling down YouTube and came across a @zacperna video that had oats in the thumbnail. I just HAD to watch the video and try that oat recipe out! It goes as follows: 60g oats 1/2 zucchini (courgette) 1 scoop protein powder Frozen berries Boiling water All you have to do is cover the oats in a bit of boiling water and microwave. Add the zucchini and microwave again. Add the berries and protein powder and mix well. Enjoy! It actually tastes really good. You get a lot of volume from the added zucchini, and it’s quite filling because of that and the protein powder. You can notice the zucchini in it but it’s not offensive. The oats still power through. The protein and berries flavour it so it’s not like an oaty vegetable stew. The fact that the zucchini is peeled means there is no bitterness from the skin, and overall it’s a sweet breakfast. I’m going it a 7.6/10 porridge points! Try it out! You may like it. Happy Saturday oatlings x
