Hey, Agatha. We need new church windows but don't have enough money. Soooo...would ya mind writing a short story to help us with the costs? . Sure, she's Agatha Christie after all. But she didn't use this pictured tale for the occasion. It ended up somewhere on her desk, and was later used as inspiration for Dead Man's Folly, her 27th Poirot. I read that one last week, and it gets 3,75⭐⭐⭐/5 stars #sarahslostreviews . In Dead Man's Folly, Poirot gets called to a country estate, where his old friend Ariadne Oliver is setting up some sort of fake "murder hunt" as a game for a party. Ariadne is a famous writer, and obviously Christie's fictional alter ego ‍♀️. She has a hunch that something is wrong and calls the Belgian detective, but they're too late because the fictional murder hunt turns into a real one when the supposed fake dead body in the boathouse isn't fake after all... . Dead Man's Folly is full of family intrigues and hidden identities, and I swear you won't guess the whodunit, it's too far fetched and strange. I would have liked some more closure at the end though, but I really liked the idea of an artificial murder mystery turning into a real one . I plan on reading the original story, Greenshore Folly, too. But I've already started Crooked House, which seems to be a secret favorite of so many of you. Anyway, the #Agathing is still going strong here. My friends and family should probably be a bit worried, all those murder mysteries...

I’m still in a Hay Daze after spending three days in Hay-on-Wye for the #BookstagramHay meet up. I caught up with and met so many wonderful bookstagrammers that book shopping actually took second place to chatting, eating, and supporting writer friends reading their work. Shock, horror, I know! I did manage to purchase a few books though which I’ll share soon. In the meantime, here’s some pics from my favourite bookshop, Murder & Mayhem, which is owned and run by @addymanbooks, and they are directly across the street from each other. The book of the month over at @maidensofmurder is The Mirror Crack’d From Side to Side which is a Miss Marple mystery that takes its title from the poem (quoted above) The Lady of Shalott by Alfred Lord Tennyson, who happens to be a favourite of mine ever since I read his poem Mariana in high school. . Here’s the synopsis: “One minute, silly Heather Badcock had been gabbling on at her movie idol, the glamorous Marina Gregg. The next, Heather suffered a massive seizure. But for whom was the deadly poison really intended? . Marina’s frozen expression suggested she had witnessed something horrific. But, while others searched for material evidence, Jane Marple conducted a very different investigation – into human nature.” . I went to see the play based on this book last week in Cardiff and I really loved it so I’m hoping it stayed true to the book. Maiden @pagesandcup has already (re)read it and gave it 4.5 stars so I’m thinking it’s a good one! .
