In this work an idea for a commercial passenger aircraft was derived. Preliminary estimations indicate potential benefits of the new concept called the “Flying V” over the A350-900 reference aircraft: 10% higher L/D, 2% lower mass, a compact and simple configuration (no high-lift devices, no fairings, straight lines), and low noise (shielding of the engines from the ground). A streamwise cut through the oblique and almost cylindrical pressurized section of the Flying V is elliptical and fits efficiently into airfoils. This leads to both structural and aerodynamic efficiency. A patent application for the concept was filed by Airbus. ~ Il futuristico e innovativo Flying-V è stato ideato da Justus Benad quando era studente alla Technische Universität Berlin, l’Università tecnica di Berlino, e successivamente sviluppato dai ricercatori della Delft University of Technology dei Paesi Bassi. I progettisti sostengono che l’aereo consumerà il 20% di carburante in meno rispetto all’Airbus A350-900 a parità di passeggeri. Il Flying-V, infatti, trasporterà 314 persone, mentre per il modello Airbus si parla di 300-350 passeggeri. Cabina passeggeri, serbatoio e stiva saranno posizionati nelle ali. La sua apertura alare è di 65 metri mentre la sua lunghezza totale è di 55 metri. Al momento non si conoscono ulteriori dettagli. La produzione di un primo aereo Flying-V è previsto tra il 2040 e il 2050.

The Airbus A300-600ST (Super Transporter) or Beluga, is a version of the standard A300-600 wide-body airliner modified to carry aircraft parts and oversized cargo. It received the official name of Super Transporter early on; however, the name Beluga, a whale it resembles, gained popularity and has since been officially adopted. The Beluga XL, based on the Airbus A330 with similar modifications and dimensions, is being developed by Airbus to replace the type around 2020. ~ L'Airbus A300-600ST Super Transporter, più noto come Beluga, è un bimotore a getto da trasporto prodotto dal consorzio europeo Airbus dalla fine degli anni novanta.
