Surprise! I worked all weekend on this new FREEBIE for you! I just uploaded it to my TPT store. Students LOVE making these extra large brooms. You only need about 4 large sheets of brown construction paper to make the handles for your whole class and one sheet of regular yellow for each student. They seriously were pretending to clean the floor during recess with these since they are so large and cute. You can head to my IGTV or stories to see how we put ours together. Today we focused on Room on the Broom and linked it to several areas of our English curriculum ‍♀️ We are focusing on retelling this term so we used the book to retell the beginning, middle and end Our phonics focus for today was Ww so we linked this to ‘witch’ and ‘wand’ and found other w words in the text We also made wands for our Ww activity! ⭐️ This small world was set up to encourage retelling of the story and oral language skills and was used during phonics activities as well as English rotations #smallworldplay

Have you read Room on the Broom? We haven’t read a book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Sheffler that we didn’t love, and Room on the Broom is no exception! . . This is the story about a kind witch and her cat who meet some new friends throughout their adventures, and generously make room on their broom for each of them along the way. Eventually the broom can no longer support their weight and snaps in two right as they are trying to escape a fire breathing dragon wanting to feast on witch and chips. The animal friends, who the witch showed such kindness, work together to scare the dragon away and rescue the witch. The witch uses her cauldron and a magic spell to make a new broom that is perfect for all five of them, and they live happily ever after. . . Shelly @creatingcreatives inspired us to go #beyondthebook and create our very own custom broom. • First we glued jumbo craft sticks together to make a giant broom stick, and my daughter used paint sticks to colour it black (swipe to see her technique) and used pipe cleaners for the end of the broom • we used mini craft sticks to make chairs for the witch, cat, and dog • a piece of egg carton made a perfect nest for the bird • we made the frog’s bath out of an empty roll of scotch tape, with tin foil for the shower head • the witch’s hat is made from cardstock, her wand is made from a large toothpick, and her cauldron is made of egg carton painted black with a wire handle . . My daughter was totally engaged in this craft for over an hour, and played with the finished product nonstop yesterday, then went straight back for more when she woke up this morning. #momwin . .
